Charles “Chick” Smith, McLeansboro

Charles%20Smith%20photo79-year-old McLeansboro resident, Charles “Chick” Smith died at 5:30 a.m. Sunday, August 21 at Eldorado Rehabilitation & Healthcare in Eldorado, IL. He was a farmer. A member of the Hickory Hill Baptist Church, he served as a deacon. He had also been appointed as a trustee of the new Hickory Hill Cemetery in 1981 and became overseer of the cemetery in 1995 until his retirement in 2014. He served over 32 years.

Survivors include his wife Emma Lee Smith of McLeansboro; sons, Ron Smith and wife Kim of McLeansboro and Josh Smith and wife Karen of Ballwin, MO; a daughter, Emily Smith of Albion; five grandchildren, Kane Smith and wife Lynn; Logan, Trase, Grant and Isla Smith and a brother, Carl Smith of McLeansboro.

Funeral services for Charles “Chick” Smith will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, August 24 at Hickory Hill Church near Walpole with burial in Hickory Hill Cemetery. The church will be open one hour before the service for visitation prior to the funeral.

Visitation will be 6 – 8 Tuesday evening, August 23 at the Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro.

Memorials may be made to the Michael J. Fox Parkinson Foundation or the Hickory Hill Cemetery Fund and will be accepted at the Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro.
