Kenneth R. Stewart – Mt. Vernon, Ill.

stewartKenneth R. “Kenny” Stewart, 84, of Mount Vernon died at his home at 4:17 A.M. Thursday, October 6, 2016.  Kenny was a farmer in McClellan Township, purchasing and farming the land that had been in the Stewart family since the early 1900s. He graduated from Mount Vernon Township High School in 1950 and served from 1952-1954 in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He attended Southern Illinois University for three years and obtained a teacher’s certificate. He taught school for several years at Campground Elementary and Waltonville High school, but decided to use his mathematical skills in the construction industry. He worked for over 25 years for the J.L. Allen Company in Tuscola, Illinois. He traveled all over the Midwest doing survey work and construction of pipelines.

Survivors include four children;  Pamela Robbins and husband Bill of Fairfield, Illinois; Dr. Steven Stewart and wife Dr. Linda of Woodbury, Minnesota; Laura Foell and husband Bill of Schaller, Iowa; and Julia Cullison and husband Keith of Stuart, Florida. He has eight grandchildren: Emily Robbins Clark and husband Walter, Curt Robbins and wife Stacey, Tom Foell, Mary Foell, Andrew Stewart and wife Megan, Melanie Stewart, Shane Cullison, and Trent Cullison. He also has eight great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his siblings: Doris England, Dwight Stewart and wife Sue, Kay Puckett and husband Mick, and David Stewart and wife Connee, all of whom are from Mount Vernon.   Funeral services for Kenneth R. “Kenny” Stewart will be 10 a.m. Monday, Oct.10 at the Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with burial in South Hickory Hill  Cemetery in rural Jefferson County, Ill.

Visitation will be 5 – 8 Sunday evening, Oct. 9 at the Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.

Memorials may be made to the South Hickory Hill Cemetery Fund and will be accepted at the Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
