The Mt. Carmel Police are investigating a theft that occurred at the Wabash Valley College dorms.  Police were called to an apartment around 3:30 am Friday morning.  The complainant advised that a male subject had entered her apartment accusing her of stealing his wallet.  The complainant advised the male subject then threatened to kill her and her friends if he didn’t get $700.00 from them.  Police arrested 20 year old Daniel Dydo of Mt. Carmel and transported him to the Wabash County Jail.  Police were able to recover evidence at the residence where Dydo was found.  Dydo is currently being held on one count of theft over $500.00 a class 3 felony.

The scheduled status hearing of murder suspect Glenn Ramey has again been delayed.  Ramey is being evaluated as to his fitness to stand trial on charges of first degree murder and predatory criminal sexual assault. The charges stem from last November’s death of eight-year-old Sabrina Stauffenberg in Olney.  On Thursday, parties for both sides in Ramey’s case agreed to continue the hearing until March 16.  Ramey remains in Richland County Jail under $10 million bond.

Hunters and trappers took a preliminary total of 141 bobcats during the 2016-17 Illinois Bobcat Hunting and Trapping Season.  Locally 2 bobcats were taken in Wayne County, 1 by gun and the other by trap.  White County reported 3 bobcats taken one by gun, one by trap and one salvaged from the road.  Clay County Reported 4 bobcats taken, 1 by bow and arrow, 2 by gun and 1 by trap; and in Hamilton County 3 bobcats were taken 2 by trap and 1 by gun.

The Edwards County High School varsity Scholastic Bowl team Played in the National Academic Quiz Tournament 2017 State Championship in Champaign over the weekend.  The team was 0-5 in the morning bracket and 2-3 in the afternoon session, winning against Southwestern B and New Berlin.  Rachel Roberts led scoring with 32 toss-ups, Hallie Murbarger had 6, Lucas Bissey scored 3, and Katie Krouse and Elias Cook each chipped in 1.  Adam Grimes rounds out the team.  The team will next be in action at the Southern Illinois Academic Conference tournament in Mt. Vernon Thursday evening.
