Virginia Anne Cochran – Fairfield

Virginia Anne Cochran, 82, passed away at her home on March 12, 2017 at 11:24 AM due to complications from Alzheimer’s Disease.

She was born on July 22, 1935 in Texarkana, Texas to Cheatham Forrest Ogden and Annice (Dalton) Ogden.

Anne attended public schools in Nashville and Chattanooga, Tennessee, graduating from Chattanooga High School in 1953.  She attended George Peabody College for Teachers in Nashville and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English 1957.  While at Peabody, she met Richard (“Dick”) Carr Cochran, who was a student at nearby Vanderbilt University Law School.  Anne and Dick were married on March 17, 1957 in Nashville.

Anne had been a member of the Fairfield First United Methodist Church since she moved to Fairfield in 1960  She was also a member of the Garden Club and the Every Wednesday Club, and she served on the Fairfield Public Library Board.  She and Dick volunteered for Meals on Wheels for many years.  Anne was an accomplished artist, and she loved birdwatching, gardening, and hiking.  She enjoyed running until she was well into her 60’s, winning numerous trophies in area 5K races. She loved  nature and planted and maintained many trees around the city of Fairfield.

Anne is survived by two daughters, Virginia Alison (Stan) Crisp of Moraga, CA and Susan (Mark) Young of Elsah, IL; one son, Richard Carr (Lucy) Cochran Jr. of San Rafael, CA; six grandchildren, Valerie Young  and Libby Young of Elsah, IL,  Alison Crisp of Atlanta, GA, Rebecca Crisp of Seattle, WA, and Marina Cochran and William Cochran of San Rafael, CA.  She is also survived by her brother, Forrest Ogden, of Mena, AR.  Her husband preceded in death on September 3, 2015

Per Anne’s wishes, her body will be cremated and a memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 18 at 2 PM at the First United Methodist Church in Fairfield, with burial of the ashes in Maple Hill Cemetery following.  Visitation will be from 1 PM until the time of service at the church.  For those who wish to do so, memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Fairfield or the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org)   and will be accepted at the church or the Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home which is in charge of all the arrangements.
