Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White announced that all offices and Driver Services facilities open Monday to Friday will be closed on Monday, October 9th, while facilities open Tuesday To Saturday will be closed Saturday, October 7th, in observance of Columbus Day. All Office and facilities will be open for business Tuesday, October 10th.

Frontier Community College is holding a fundraising event to help aid victims of the recent hurricanes in Puerto Rico. FCC hopes to show their love and support for them and all of their families during the recovery effort. Rockin’ for Puerto Rico will be held Thursday October 19th From 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. in the Bobcat Den and adjacent Parking lot. All Proceeds will go to World Vision or Samaritan Purse for hurricane relief efforts to Puerto Rico. Cost is by donation. For more information, call Frontier Community College at 842-3711.

A Maunie man has been sentenced to time in the county jail for violating the state’s sex offender registry laws. 27-year-old Eric D. Vessels was arrested in early july after failing to register as a sex offender as required by law. On Wednesday, Vessels was sentenced to six months in the county jail and two years of conditional discharge on the class-3 felony charge. Illinois State Police investigated the case against Vessels.
