Carbondale police are investigating a homicide that took place early Saturday morning. Police responded to a shooting around 2:41 a.m. around the 700 block of East College Street. When officers arrived, they found one individual with a fatal gunshot wound, according to police. Officials described the suspect as “a heavy-set black male with a beard, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, and a hat.” The victim is not being identified at this time. Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White announced that all offices and Driver Services facilities open Monday to Friday will be closed on Monday, October 9th, while facilities open Tuesday To Saturday will be closed Saturday, October 7th, in observance of Columbus Day. All Office and facilities will be open for business Tuesday, October 10th.

Fairfield Public Golf course, NFP will host its benefit auction Saturday October 14th at the Fairfield Elks Lodge beginning at 6 pm featuring items and services donated by local businesses and individuals. There will be a $10 cover charge at the door. The event is open to the public and you don’t have to play golf to participate.

The FCHS Homecoming Parade was held Friday Afternoon under good weather conditions. There were three float entries that placed. Taking first place was the FCHS Junior Class. Second place went to Stauder Eye Care and third was Coaches Kids. The parade was broadcast on WFIW 104.9 and wfiwradio.com and was sponsored by Fairfield National Bank. The Homecoming football game was played Friday night as the Mules advanced to 7-0 on the season after a 46-0 victory over Vienna-Goreville Eagles.
