A Flood Watch remains in effect for counties along and south of Interstate 64 in southern Illinois. Counties in the watch include Wayne, Jefferson, Edwards, Wabash, Hamilton, White, Saline and Gallatin. Rain and a few storms are possible tonight through sometime Saturday night. Total rainfall amounts can be anywhere from 4-7 inches. Motorists are reminded that if they come across a flooded roadway to turn around. Those that travel at night are to be aware of the possibility of flooded roadways as they are hard to see.
The Wayne County Sheriff’s Department reports the arrests of 19 year-old Austin M. Feldman and 19 year-old Blaze L. White of West Salem in connection of shooting out the glass of two tractors and a Ford model grain truck on February 9, along with an attempted heist of a battery out of a grain truck on February 14 at the James R. Bunnage property in Ellery. Both men were arrested on Wednesday and have been charged with burglary and criminal damage to property. Bond for Feldman and White has yet to be set.
43 year-old Randall G. Legg of Fairfield was arrested on Tuesday at 3:20 p.m. on a charge of driving with license suspended. Bond was set at $1,500.
Mt. Vernon Township High School Officials, along with Mt. Vernon police are investigating a possible social media threat made against the high school. A spokesman for the police department stated the investigation continues, and given the climate of school violence around the country, they are taking the threat seriously. Police learned of the threat Wednesday afternoon. No arrests have been made at this time.
The 27th Annual Family Literacy Fest hosted by the Wayne County Family Enrichment Program has been set. The event will be held Saturday, May 19th from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Kiddie Kollege in Fairfield. This is a free event for families with children 0 to 8 years of age. Many fun activities are planned for the event.
The Wayne City High School History Club will have their annual trivia night Saturday Feb. 24th in the high school performance gym. Registration begins at 6 p.m., with trivia beginning at 7 p.m. Entry fee for teams of up to 10 members is $100. There will be door prizes and snacks, with all proceeds going to the History Club.
The Geff Firemen’s Annual Chicken BBQ lunch will be held on Sunday, March 11. The meal will be served at the Geff Firehouse with serving starting at 11:00 am. The menu will include: BBQ Chicken, baked potato, green beans, corn, slaw, rolls, dessert and drink. Carry-outs are available. Price is by donation with proceeds to be used for new fire equipment.
