 Tuesday, July 28th

Noble Community Chowder will be held on Saturday, August 8th.  We are in need pies and cakes donated.  If you are interested in donating a pie or cake, pie plates can be picked up at the Noble Foods or the Noble Village Clerks office. In addition to the regular raffle, there will also be a raffle for a Modified Star Embroidered Quilt. The quilt can be seen at the Holiday in Olney. Tickets are available at either The Holiday in Olney or the Tin Cup, Noble Foods or Noble Village Clerks in Noble.

The Clay County Hospital will be doing FREE sports physicals on Tuesday, July 28th at the Cisne Clinic from 8am to 11:30am.  You do not have to be a patient to be able to participate.  These are student sports physicals only and Clay County Hospital will donate $10 per student to each schools respective academic foundation!!

 

Wednesday, July 29th

Friday, July 31st

Wayne and Clay County Health Departments will be hosting a “Big Latch” event on July 31st at 10:00am at Leo French Park. We would love to see any past, present, and future breastfeeding families attend for refreshments, prizes, and fun! Come out and celebrate Johnsonville Community Days beginning on Friday, July 31st and going through Sunday, August 2nd.  Fun going on every day!!  On Friday enjoy the Stock Pullers and Truck Pull beginning at 7 as well as bingo in the Pavillion at 7pm.  Sandwiches are available at the Pavillion.

The 16 Relay For Life events across Southern Illinois are coming together to participate in a united fundraising effort. Although the Relay For Life events across Southern Illinois are complete, the volunteers work year-round to raise funds. Participants will be able to select which Relay For Life event and/or team they would like their registration to benefit. The funds raised will support groundbreaking cancer research, education and prevention programs, and critical services for people facing cancer. The American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life will be hosting a glow run/walk 5K on Friday July 31st at 4503 W DeYoung in Marion, Illinois. Registration for this event begins at 8 PM and the race is set to start at 9 PM.  The 3.15 mile course is a fast and flat loop on low-traffic roads. Timing services will be provided by Run To Succeed. Early registration ends July 24th and the $25 registration fee includes a t-shirt, glow necklace, and glow bracelet. Day of registration is also $25, but a t-shirt is not guaranteed. Other glowing items will be available for purchase that night. Medals will be awarded to the top run and walk finishers. Saturday, August 1st

There will be a benefit dinner for Brenda Belangee at the Fairfield Floral Hall on Saturday, August 1st from 11a-1p to help pay medical expenses.

Yo Ho Holy . . . A Pirate’s Guide to Jesus is a one day VBS adventure taking place on Saturday, August 1st from 9 AM – 2 PM at New Beginnings Church in Fairfield.  Yo Ho Holy brings God’s Word to life when kids age 4 – Grade 6 visit two bible stations: Treasure Island and Captain’s Quarters.  There will also be crafts, games, a special play and lunch for children and their families.  For more information or to pre-register, please call 516-1537.

Fairfield Fireworks have been rescheduled from the 4th of July to Saturday, August 1st, beginning at dusk.

The Edwards County Soccer Association will be having their Soccer sign ups and pork burger sale on August 1st at Borowiak’s IGA in Albion From 10:30-1:00. If you cant make it to the sign ups you can call Tonya Moore 618-445-7940. All boys and girls grades Kindergarten- 8th grade are welcome to play. The registration fee is $25.00 per child. All participants required to have shin guards with socks that go up over them.

Come out and continue the excitement on Saturday, August 1st with Johnsonville Community Days.  There will be flea markets and crafts all day with a $10 set up fee for vendors.  Breakfast will kick off things at 7am followed by the Car Show registration from 9 until Noon.  A Tractor Show will begin at 9am as well followed by the parade at 10.  Then a Mud Bog and Ham and Beans, Cornbread and sandwiches beginning at 11.  Fred and his Feathery Friends will show up at 2 followed by the Miss and Mister Johnsonville Days Contest and at 6pm make sure to stay for the Andy King Band.  There will also be a 50/50 raffle all day and the drawing will take place at 7pm.  Everyone is welcome!!

The United Way of Southern Illinois will be having their Glow Run 5K on Saturday, August 1st, at Rend Lake College in
Ina, Illinois.  You can pick up your packets at 7pm and the race will begin at 9pm.  If you would like to participate, come and register….if you are not a runner come out and watch and help support the United Way of Southern Illinois.

First General Baptist Church will be having a one day Vacation Bible School, using the theme BLASTOFF, from 9:00 am
to 2:00 pm. Registration will be at 8:30 am. Lunch will be served. All children from ages 5 through 12 are welcome.
Come and enjoy the experience of outer space, with Bible stories. The church is located at 1601 West Main Street.

 

Sunday, August 2nd

The First Christian Church of Albion at 4th and Elm Streets in Albion will be celebrating 175 years on Sunday, August 2nd.  Sunday School will be at 9am with Church Services beginning at 10am.  There will be a celebration with music beginning at 2pm at the church, featuring former Carmi native, Darrell Marshall now of Nashville, Tennessee.  Everyone is invited to attend the celebration!

There will be a Benefit Dinner for Brenda Belangee on Sunday, August 2nd from 11am to 1pm at the Fairfield Floral Hall.  The menu will consist of pork chops, BBQ, cheesy potatoes, green beans, dessert and drink.  Brenda was diagnosed with breast cancer recently.  All donations will go toward medical expenses.

Johnsonville Community Days wraps up things on Sunday, August 2nd with Church Services and an FFA Program beginning at 10:30am and a Chicken Dinner at Noon!  Come out and enjoy good food and fellowship!!

 

Monday, August 3rd

Orchardville Church, in Orchardville, Illinois will be having their Vacation Bible School beginning on Monday, August 3rd and going thru Friday, August 7th from 6-8p.  They will have a free meal from 5:15-6p and VBS is for kids ages 3 yrs through 5th grade!

Tuesday, August 4th

North Wayne Community Unit School District #200 has set registration for back to school for Tuesday, August 4th from 1 to 3pm and then again from 4 to 6pm.  Cisne Middles School and Cisne High School students may pick up class schedules on registration day.  Johnsonville, Mt Erie and CMS registration will be held at Cisne Middle School, while CHS registration will take place at the high school.  Students entering school for the first time, sixth grade and ninth grade must have a recent physical examination and proof of immunization.  Students entering kindergarten, 2nd and 6th grades must have a dental exam and all kindergarten students must have a complete eye exam.  All fees for books, extracurricular, etc….should be paid at registration.  School will begin for North Wayne C. U. S. D. #200 on Friday, August 14th with dismissal at 2d:15 on that day.

Mt. Vernon, Illinois will hold their “National Night Out” on Tuesday, August 4th at Veteran’s City Park in Mt. Vernon.  There  will be free food, drinks, cotton candy, snow cones and popcorn!  Barnum Entertainment will have blow ups, face painting and balloon twisting.  The event begins at 5:30pm and goes until 8:30pm.  Bring the kids for a night of food and fun!!!

 

Wednesday, August 5th

Opening Ceremonies for the Cisne Reunion will begin at 6:00 pm tonight, Wednesday, August 5th with the announcement of the 2015 Cisne Reunion Parade Marshalls.  At 6:30 there will be a Hymn Sing followed by “Bringing Home” at 7pm.  Everyone is encouraged to attend. Caritas Family Solutions is a nonprofit social service agency with the largest foster care program in Southern Illinois. They are hosting a “Fun in the Sun” event on August 5th at Grace United Methodist Church in Salem for the community to learn more about foster parenting. Children’s games and snacks will be provided at no cost and staff will be there to talk to interested individuals about foster parenting.

Saturday, August 8th

The 96th Annual Bone Gap Chowder will be held on Saturday, August 8th on the Bone Gap Chowder Grounds.  Come spend the day and bring your lawn chairs…there is plenty of shade.  The Bone Gap Chowder will kick off at 9am with the Garden Tractor Pull followed by the Kid Tractor/Train rides and lots of inflatables and fun things from 12pm to 4pm.  Lunch will be served at Noon as well with steak burgers, pie, lemonade, iced tea, soda pop and water.  The Chowder serving will begin at 4pm.  If anyone is interested in helping with the community wide event, you are more than welcome to come out about 8am and help get vegetables ready.  Bring a pan and your peeling knife and join in on the fun!!!

Big day for the Cisne Reunion today, Saturday, August 8th.  There will be a run/walk, breakfast, tractor show, car show, and so much more!!  To see all the things going on today at the Cisne Reunion click here!!  Everyone is encouraged to come out and have some good, clean fun!!

Noble Community Chowder will be held on Saturday, August 8th at the Noble Park in Noble, Illinois.  Serving starts at 11:00 am.  The menu will consist of Chowder, Fried Chicken, Pork Burgers, Hot Dogs, Baked Beans, Slaw, Pie and Cake, Tea and Lemonade.  There will also be booths selling snow cones, ice cream and soda.

Sunday, August 9th

Johnsonville Grade School Reunion, for Classes Of 65, 66, 67, 68, 69 & CLASS OF 70 will be held on Sunday, August 9th.  If you Graduated from there or were in those Grade School Classes and moved— plan to COME!!  The reunion will be held at the Johnsonville Ruitan Bulding from 1 to 4pm . Mark your calendars and plan to come, for a good time of visiting!!!! Bring finger foods and Lawn chairs.

 

Saturday, August 15th

The Frontier Community College Bobcats will hold a one-day softball camp on Saturday, August 15th, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. for students entering grades 4-8. The cost is $25 per participant and will be held at the Southwest Park in Fairfield.  The camp will provide one-on-one instruction from Bobcats softball coaches and players in the fundamentals of base running, fielding, hitting, and throwing. Players should bring their hat, glove, helmet, and spikes.  The registration form is available at www.iecc.edu/fcc or the Bobcats Facebook page. Tuesday, August 18th

The North Wayne CUSD #200 will be holding a  District Surplus Sale with several items available.  They will accept Sealed bids which are due on Aug. 18th at 9:00 a.m.   The complete listing is available at the District Office.  Items can be seen at Cisne High School, Mt. Saturday, August 22nd

The 43rd annual Shriner’s golf tournament will be held on Saturday, August 22nd with an 8am shotgun start. The format will be a two man scramble. There will be two flights, prizes given away for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places also awarded will be longest putt and closest to the pin. Cost is $75 per person and that includes 18 holes of golf, a cart, light breakfast, light lunch, and libations.

 

Friday, August 28th

2015 Save-A-Lot Rib Cook-Off will be held Saturday September 19th during the Fall Fun Fest.  Applications to participate are available at Fairfield Save-A-Lot and Fairfield Printing and Graphics (max 15 teams).  Registration fee is $20 (paid up-front) and you receive three slabs of spare ribs to be judged by three or four judges.  Setup/start
time is 7am and turn in time is 4:30pm to the judges tent.  The event will be held on the parking lot east of the Post Office.  First place winner will have their choice of a Smoker or a Weber Grill, second place will receive the remaining prize.  Deadline to register is August 28th.

 

Friday, September 4th

A six day tour is being planned for anyone interested in going to New Orleans (The Big Easy).  The tour is scheduled to begin on September 21st.  If you interested call Richard Mason at 618-842-9277.
