Friday, October 31st

Pre-ordered FCHS playoff t-shirts may be picked up Friday from 4-5p at the High School or at Fairfield Printing & Graphics from 4-5p.

This year the local Toys for Tots organization and The Hope Center, will start collecting donations of new, unwrapped toys November 1, 2014.  We are also asking for donations to help us purchase these new, unwrapped toys for our local Toys for Tots organization.  If you live in Edwards, White, Wabash Counties or West Frankfort we ask for your help with this years campaign.  We want you to know all money and toys collected locally stay local.  Our mailing address is:  The Hope Center, 23 West Cherry St., Albion, IL 62806.  We will start registering clients the first 3 Wednesdays in November and at the November “Feed the Family on Nov. 15th. The toy distribution day is Sunday December 14, 2014 at the Exhibition Building in Albion. North Side Baptist Church will host a Trunk or Treat Friday evening Oct. 31 from 5:00 until 7:00. The event will take place on the church parking lot located at 9:05 N. First Street in Fairfield. Parents and grandparents are encouraged to bring their children and receive treats from the cars on the parking lot.

Wayne County Trick or Treat times will be Friday, October 31st from 5 to 8pm.  Please accompany all children while Trick or Treating and use caution at all times. 

It’s a Halloween Tradition!  Stop by the Fairfield City Fire station on NW 7th Street, for the annual Fairfield City Volunteer Fire Department Halloween Chili Supper.  Serving both lunch and supper, beginning at 11am and 5pm, your $8 ticket includes all-you-can-eat chili, plus a hot dog, a peanut butter sandwich, dessert and a drink.  Carry out will be available as well, in the back of the station.  Enjoy a great bowl of chili, and all the extras on Halloween at the Fairfield City Fire Department.

Wayne County Ambulance will be doing Trick or Treating again this year.  We will be giving out candy and doing face painting from 5-8 both Thursday and Friday.  We would like to invite everyone out to come see us!

Sims Missionary Baptist Church in Sims, will be having our 3rd annual Trunk or Treat starting at 5:30 pm on Fri. Oct. 31st. There will be chili and hot dogs in the fellowship hall. Everyone is welcome!

Christmas for Kids fundraiser “Halloween in the Park” will take place on Friday, October 31st on the square in Cisne.  There will be a Chili supper, cake walk in the firehouse, costume parade on the square, and lots of fun!!  The menu includes chili, peanut butter and honey sandwiches, hot dogs, dessert, tea, coffee and water.  All profits for the evening will be used for Christmas for Kids in the North Wayne area. 

Trick or Treat Night for Wayne City has been set for Friday, October 31 from 5 to 8 p.m.

Edwards County High School is having a pumpkin decorating contest open to the public of all ages. Pumpkins may be painted or carved, and will be divided into three age categories: 5th grade and under, 6th- 8th grade, and 9th grade and above. Pumpkins will be on display at various places in West Salem and Albion until October 31st with collection jars for people to vote for their favorite pumpkin. Votes are $0.25 a piece and proceeds will go to the ECHS NHS. To enter a pumpkin, please provide your name, age, phone number, and a brief description of your pumpkin and bring with your pumpkin to the Edwards County High School door #3 on October 24th. There will be prizes for all age categories. Good luck and happy decorating!

The Orchardville Ghoul School is back in session again this year.  Ghoul School will be holding class on October 31st.  Scare times are 7pm-midnight and admission is $5.  Proceeds go to charity.  Orchardville Ghoul School is located 1 mile South of 161 Extension.  Everyone is welcome!!

There will be a pork burger sale on Friday, October 31st in the Methodist Church Parking lot at 1st and Main in Fairfield.   The menu will consist of pork burgers, ribeyes, and marinated pork chops.  The benefit is for Foodtastic Fridays.   

 

Saturday, November 1st

All New Hope residents need to be aware that hydrant flushing will be going on the entire month of November.  While flushing is going on in your area, you may notice discolored water.  This water is completely safe to drink, be you are urged to check water before doing laundry.  If you have any questions call 618-843-3477 or 618-925-4445.  Your patience is appreciated.

The Wayne City Jr. Beta Club is going Trick or Treating on Saturday, November 1st in Wayne City for non-perishable food items for the Western Wayne Center of Hope’s food drive.  We will be collecting anything from canned foods, dry goods, peanut butter and jelly and much more.  Items that children would eat would be especially helpful.  All food collected will be dispersed within our community.  If you would like to donate to this food drive, please leave your light on for us on Saturday evening.  If you do not plan to be home, please leave the food on your porch, or you can bring it to the school.  We will be collecting around 6 pm on Saturday.

The Johnsonville Ruritan Club will be hosting a “Chicken and Noodle Supper” on Saturday, November 1st beginning at 5pm.  The event is to help with medical expenses for the Lowell Talbert family.  Everyone is invited. 

Mt. Erie Christian Church will be hosting  “Trunk-n-Treat on Saturday, November 1st in the church parking lot from 5-7pm.  There will be lots of candy and treat give a ways as well as hot dogs, chips and drinks.  Hayrides will be offered as well from 5:30 to 6pm.  Everyone is welcome!

The West Salem Lodge #866 AF & AM will hold their Chowder event on Saturday, November 1st at the lodge.  Serving begins at 11am.  No glass containers and bulk only.  The proceeds go toward the Harold Feldman Scholarship Fund.

The Loose Nut Motorcycle Club will hold their “Loose Nut Dual Sport Ride 2014″ and the event will take place at Ferne Clyff State Park on IL 37, in Goreville, IL on November 1st and 2nd starting at 7am.  This is a self-guided dual sport motorcycle tour of southern Illinois and is not for profit event and everyone is welcome to take part.  For more information check out our website at  http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=934710 or find us on Facebook.

Gym Bob’s Jamboree show will be held on Saturday. November 1st  at 1 : 00 PM at Bible Grove,  IL.  The show consists of Country, 50 &60’s, and Gospel music. The show will feature Mike Porter & Marsha Banning  with the Panther Creek Band. Also featuring Samantha Krumreich & Christina Banning  Special guest Carla Linder from Salem IL .

 

Sunday, November 2nd

Southern Illinois’ Homecoming Gospel Choir will be in concert at the Grace Nazarene Church in Salem, Illinois on Sunday, November 2nd beginning at 6pm.  For an unforgettable evening of musical worship and praise….Southern Gospel style….don’t miss this concert!!  Admission is free and a free will offering will be received.  The Grace Nazarene Church is located at 1900 North Broadway in Salem.  For more information contact the church office at 618-548-0881 or call John Roberts at 618-245-9133.  Everyone is encouraged to attend!

The St. Edward’s Men’s Club Fall Sausage Dinner will be held on Sunday, November 2nd from 11am to 1:30pm at the parish hall of St Edward’s Catholic Church.  The church is located at 300 N. W. 5th street in Fairfield.  The meal includes, whole hog sausage, mashed potatoes, green beans, applesauce, sauerkraut, drink and dessert.  Carry outs are available.

First United Methodist Church presents “You Were Made To Shine”, a girls retreat from 1pm to 5pm.  All girls ages 8-14, and their parents, who have been bullied, who’d like to learn to dress age appropriately, and learn to follow your dream and be inspired to SHINE are invited to attend.

 

Tuesday, November 4th

On Tuesday, November 4th, the Northside PTO will be hosting a Chili Supper & Silent Auction in conjunction with the Northside Open House & Book Fair.  The chili supper & silent auction will run from 5:00-7:00 p.m. in the gymnasium.  Meals will include your choice of chili, a hot dog & a cookie OR 2 hot dogs & a cookie, drinks included.  Meals prices are $4 for adults and $2 for children 12 & under.  Items that will be available for bid at the silent auction include 4 One-Day Park Hopper tickets to Walt Disney World, American Girl “Julie” Doll, St. Louis Cardinals baseball tickets, Six Flags St. Louis tickets, St. Louis Magic House tickets, Big Splash Adventure tickets, Southern Illinois Miners tickets, Brighton bracelets, gift certificates to many area businesses, & many other great items.  Everyone is welcome!

 

Wednesday, November 5th

There will be a Community Blood Drive on Wednesday, November 5th,  from 11:30 A.M. – 5:30 P.M. at Community of Christ Church, 503 Windsor Lane in Fairfield.  Door prizes will be awarded and prizes are  2- $25.00 Wal-Mart gift cards.  All blood types are needed.  Help support the Red Cross and donate!!

 

Thursday, November 6th

New Vision Blind and Low-vision Support Group is hosting a Walgreens Pharmacist who will explain the workings and availability of the talking prescription bottle on Thursday, November 6th from 1:30pm to 3:30pm at Faith Lutheran Church, 1104 north 42 street in Mount Vernon IL.   There will also be a short discussion about the December Christmas party. The Wayne Co. Soil & Water Conservation District is now taking orders in their Office for their Annual Fall Fish Sale. Delivery of fish is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 6 at the Wayne Co. Friday, November 7th

The Orel Lodge #759 will hold their annual Fish Fry on Friday, November 7th starting at 4pm at the Wayne City Orel Lodge.  The menu consists of all you can eat, fresh fried boneless catfish, french fries, baked beans, cole slaw, potato salad, tea, lemonade and desserts.  Price is by donation and they will serve until its gone!!!

Saturday, November 8th

There will be a Veteran’s Day Breakfast on Saturday, November 8th in the Home Ec room at Wayne County High School.  Serving will begin at 8am and all Veteran’s and their families are welcome.  There will be a guest speaker and a service will follow the breakfast.  Sponsored by Wayne City FFA and FCCLA.

On Saturday, November 8th, the Friends of the Flora Library will help you “Fall into Reading” at their  Fall Used Book Sale at the Flora Library, 216 North Main Street.  The sale lasts from 8:ooam until 3:00pm.  Fall into reading as you choose materials to learn from, enjoy or just cherish from the stacks, boxes and carts of fiction and non-fiction items.  Readers, pickers, decorators, crafters or cooks, youth historians and just plain book lovers will find many genres of books, magazines, CDs and DVDs to satisfy their needs and wants.   All hard and soft cover books and comic books are 25 cents each.  All CDs, DVDs and VHS movies are also 25 cents each.  All magazines are 10 cents each or 12 for $1.   Donations of clean and used books, magazines, CDs, DVDs are still being accepted and may be dropped off at the Library during regular hours:  Monday-Thursday from 1:30 to 8:30pm, Friday from 10am to 6pm and Saturday from 10am to 5pm.  For more information on “Fall into Reading” please call 618-662-6553 or stop by the Library.  We look forward to seeing you on November 8th.

The Noble Lions Club will be holding their Pancake & Whole Hog Sausage and  Biscuits and Gravy All you Can  Eat breakfast on Saturday, November 8th beginning at 6:00am and going until 1:00pm.  Adults will pay $6.00 and kids under 10 $3.00.  The event will be held at the  Noble Lions Building in Noble, IL.  Everyone is welcome!

Tuesday, November 11th

Enfield RHCC is honoring veterans for their selfless acts on Veterans Day, November 11th at 2:00 PM.   Brittany Lloyd will sing especially for them. Refreshments will be served. Saturday, November 15th

The Craft Show at the Holiday in Olney will be held on Saturday, November 15th from 9am to 5pm.  There will be every type of craft imaginable available for purchase, so go to 1300 South West, in Olney on Saturday, November 15th for the Craft Show at the Holiday!!

Wayne County Golf Course (WCGC) will host its State of the Course Chili Supper from seven to nine o’clock on Saturday night, November 15th at The Landing, located at 119 N.E. 3rd Street in Fairfield.  Join other members who go the extra mile to support our 18 hole golf course.  Hear a brief presentation to recap 2014 and preview 2015 plans for growth.  This is a fundraising event.  Your support and input is greatly needed and appreciated!  Admission is $25 for singles, $40 for couples.  The Landing’s capacity is limited to the 1st fifty reservations from members and their guests. The First Christian Church of Carmi invites you to a Fall Revival with Patrick Garcia November 17-19 at 7pm. Each evening will feature preaching and special music. The Wayne County Shrine Club will be having a drive-thru pork chop dinner on Saturday November 22, from 10:30am-2pm.  The meal will feature One bone-in pork chop, a roll, cole slaw, Lay’s potato chips, baked beans and a bottle of water for $10.  Proceeds will be used to help reach our pledge of $25,000 to the new Shriner’s Children’s Hospital in St. Louis.

 

Saturday, December 6th

Once again the Wabash County Youth Exhibition will sponsor Christmas at the Fair Craft show on the weekend of  December 6th -7th. All Craft Vendors are welcome, booths are 8’X12” and are $40 for the weekend.
