Thursday, April 17th

Jasper Junior high will be having a pork burger cookout at the IGA parking lot on Thursday, April 17th from 10-2:30. All proceeds to help with Washington, D.C. trip expenses. Also, anyone who pre-order ribs and pork loin need to pick them at that day between 10 am and 2 pm at the cookout.

Senior Life Solutions of Fairfield Memorial Hospital will be hosting its women’s Coffee Club at the Fairfield Kontiki on April 17th  from 9:30AM – 10:30AM. Coffee and donuts will be provided. Everyone is invited to come out and socialize and meet new people.

A Free Skate will be held at Skateland Rollersport at 1700 West Main Street on Thursday, April 17th from 6 to 9p.m.  Free admission and free skates for all Wayne County grade school students (8th grade and under).  Sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Fairfield.

Ed Waid and Nashville North Band will continue playing at the Kon-Tiki (211 SE 2nd St) in Fairfield, every Thursday night, from 6:30-9:30.  Ladies bring your favorite covered dish to share for a potluck at 8:00. Also 50/50 drawing. $5 admission.  Soft drinks available for purchase.  Bring someone that has NEVER been there and receive 1/2 off of your admission. For more information call (618) 842-9834.

 

Friday, April 18th

First United Methodist Church in Fairfield presents “A Children’s Easter Celebration” on Friday, April 18th from 9:30 to 11:30am.  This is for all children ages 2-12.  They will be having a Bible story, crafts, games, and an Easter egg hunt.  Lunch will be provided.  Please call the church office at 618-842-2129 to reserve your spot!

A “Free Give Away Day” has been scheduled for Friday,  April 18, from 9 am to 12 noon, at the Round Prairie Church,  842 Co. Rd. 1375 N. in Cisne.  Everyone is welcome to attend the “Give Away Day”  for free clothing,  home decorations, household items and more.  To get to the church from Sims, turn north off Rt. 15 at the Sims crossroads and travel north for about 6 miles.  Turn left on Co. Rd. 1375 N.  Watch for church sign at this turn.  Church is 1 mile to the west. From Johnsonville,  turn south off the 161 Extension at the Johnsonville Crossroads.  Travel south on Co. Hwy 12 about 5 miles to the Y in the road.  Veer to the left at the Y and then take the first right on Co. Rd. 865 E.  Follow 865 E to the stop sign.  Turn right and the church is on your left.

The Olney Baptist Association will be sponsoring a special Good Friday Service on Friday, April 18th, at 7:00 PM. The service will be held at The First Baptist Church of Clay City.  We sure hope to see you all here. For further information, please call Pastor Brad at 618-554-5862.

 

Saturday, April 19th

There will be a pork burger sale at Country Financial in Cisne on Saturday April 19th from 10am-2pm.  Proceeds go towards the Cisne Fireworks Display.

There will be an Easter Egg Hunt for children ages toddler to 12 years of age on Saturday, April 19th beginning at 10am at the Cisne Rehabilitation & Health Care Center.  There will be 4 age groups…walking to 3 years old, 4 to 6 years old, 7 to 9 and 10 to 12 years of age.  There will be prizes and refreshments!  For more information call 618-673-2177.

There will be a bake sale to benefit Lauren Brake’s People to People trip to Australia.  The sale will take place on Saturday, April 19th at 8am at Classic Pizza and Pasta.  They will be selling HOMEMADE divinity, cookies, pies, homemade egg noodles, dinner rolls, cinnamon rolls, peanut brittle, cakes, biscotti, danish rolls, apple dumplings and More!!!  Let us help with your Easter dinner!

Wayne City Jr. High Beta Club will be sponsoring the Village Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 19th at 10:00 AM.  This will be for children from ages 0-10, with age brackets of ages 0-3, 4-6, and 7-10.  This will be located at the Wayne City Park.  There will be a few other prizes in each age bracket, as well.  Bring your kids and enjoy a day for a great cause!!

Hope Ministries Food Pantry of Geff will be distributing Food and commodities to residents of Wayne County April 19th, 9-11am.  Please bring container or box for your food.

 

Sunday, April 20th

The Mt. Erie Christian Church  will host the area Easter Sunrise Service at 7:00 am Sunday, April 20th.  Sunday school will begin at 9:00 am and worship services will begin at 9:45 am.  Everyone is welcome to attend.

Wabash Area Development, Inc. Head Start program is now accepting applications for the 2014-2015 program year. This is a fun educational experience for the whole family. We offer family fun nights, field trips, health services, and developmental screenings all at no cost to families. All children birth to age 5 and pregnant women are eligible for Head Start. Call (618) 963-2387 today to schedule an appointment and give your child the best head start possible.

The 17th Annual Wayne County Misfits car show will be held on May 24th at Leo French Park.  This year a new attraction will be offered….”Women’s World” flea market and swap meet.  There is no charge for the space, but please call Sherri at 618-599-1274 to reserve a space and additional information.  The Misfits would like to say Thank You for making the Spring rib sale a huge success.  The money raised will be used for community projects.  The next meeting will be held on April 24th with the meal at 6pm and the meeting at 7pm at First Christian Church.  New Members are always welcome!

Friday, April 25th

Gamma Chi sorority will be having their annual Geranium Sales in the parking lot across form Hucks in Fairfield on Friday April 25, from 8:30-1:00 and on Saturday, April 26, from 8:00-1:00.  Single plants will be $3.50 and hanging plants are $16.00.  (In case of rain, we will be selling at 515 NW 9th in the garage behind the house.)

John Hill, evangelist from Ozark, MO will be present the gospel through illusion at North Side Baptist Church April 25-27. Catherine Singleton will be leading out music. Friday night will be a youth only night. We will have a time of food and fellowship at 6:00 PM and then John will lead us in a time of worship and reflection with gospel magic. Saturday night, Sunday morning, and Sunday evening services will be for all ages. Evening services will be at 6:00 PM and the Sunday morning service will begin at 10:30 AM.

 

Saturday, April 26th

The Annual Cisne Pancake Breakfast will be held on Saturday April, 26th at the Bedford Township Fire Department in Cisne from 6:30am until 10am.  Breakfast is by donation.   Proceeds will go towards fire fighting equipment and scholarships.

The ECHS Softball team is having a pork burger & pork chop sale on Saturday, April 26th. The cookout will be held at the ECHS Softball Field (Field 3), South of the school in Albion. Serving will begin at 10:30 a.m. In case of rain, the cookout will be held at the concession area of the Linda Oxby Gymnasium at ECHS.

The Wayne County Home and Community Education (HCE) will have their pork chop sandwich, pie and bake sale fund raiser on Saturday, April 26th, from 10am to 2pm at the Methodist Church parking lot at Wayne City.  Steve Ehrhart will be cooking his delicious pork sandwiches.  HCE members will provide pies and other baked goods.  Please support HCE activities!

The Wayne County Coalition Against Drug Abuse (WCCADA) in cooperation with Fairfield Memorial Hospital, Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, Fairfield Police Department, and Southeastern Illinois Counseling Centers, Inc. will be participating in a nationwide Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday, April 26th.  Individuals will be able to bring unused prescription medications to Fairfield Memorial Hospital from 10 a.m. til 2 p.m. for proper disposal.  There will be a Pharmacist and Police Officer on hand to accept the prescription medications and maintain chain of custody.  Weather permitting, the drop off site will be held along Dr. Scranton Memorial Drive in front of Fairfield Memorial Hospital; however, if it rains, the drop off will be held just inside the Hospital’s main entrance at the Volunteer Desk.  More information is available by contacting Mark Odle at (618) 599-0881.

Spring Fling in the Cisne Park will be held from 8 a.m. til noon Saturday, April 26th.  There will be a breakfast at the Fire House, plants, a Bake Sale, vendors, and pork burgers in the park.  Other activities include Tasteful Simply, Scentsy, Origami Owl, Tupperware, Avon, 31 Bags and lots of perennials.  The FFA will have vegetable and garden plants and hanging baskets.  Proceeds will go to support Barth Park.

 

Sunday, April 27th

Southern Illinois’ Homecoming Gospel Choir will be in concert at the Woodlawn Christian Church in Woodlawn, Illinois on Sunday, April 27th at 6pm.  Admission to the concert is free and a love offering will be received.  The Woodlawn Christian Church is located at 501 Green Street in Woodlawn.  For additional information, contact the church office at 6918-735-2355 or John Roberts at 618-245-9133.

On Sunday April 27th at 6:00 pm the Gospel Messengers consisting of father and sons, Bart, Dennis, & Daniel Southerd, will perform at Oak Valley Free Will Baptist Church, Church located 3 miles West of Geff.

Thursday, May 1st

The Wayne County Family Enrichment Program will be hosting a Learning and Playing Group “Outside Fun” at the Wayne City Park on Thursday May 1, 2014 from 9:30-10:30 am.  This is a free event that is open to the public with children under the age of 3.  A story, parent handout, craft, activities, and free play will be on hand for families to enjoy with their children.  For more information please call 842-4043.

Clay City First Baptist (118 S 5th St SW) will be hosting a 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. Round the Clock National Day of Prayer on Thursday, May 1. The community is invited to stop by the Church to join in prayer anytime during those hours.

 

Saturday, May 3rd

The 38th Annual Spirit of the Vincennes  Rendezvous will be held Memorial Day Weekend on Saturday, May 24th from 9a to 6pm and Sunday May 25th from 10am to 5pm (all times are Eastern Times).  The festivities will take place near the George Rogers Clark National Historical Park on the French Commons.  There will be Revolutionary Era Food, Merchants, Battle Enactments and North West Territory Alliance Encampment.  Admission is $8 for adults and $2 for children.  For more information go to www.spiritof vincennes.org.

Erie.  Serving will be from 6-9am and the menu will consist of biscuits and sausage gravy, sausage, scrambled eggs, hash browns, pancakes, coffee and orange juice.  The price is $6.00 for adults and $3.00 for children 10 and under.

The Geff Ruritan Club will host a Beef and Chicken Noodle Benefit Dinner for Jonah Goodman, son of Gerard and Cassie Goodman, beginning at 4:30pm.  Young Jonah is battling a heart ailment.

CROSSVILLE DODGEBALL TOURNAMENT  at Crossville High School Gym on May 9th…Two divisions..Senior 18 and up and Junior 14 to 18… $75.00 Registration fee…teams consist of 6 players and 2 subs…teams may have up to 10 members. There will also be a 50/50 drawing….basket raffle…and concessions. Saturday, May 17th

The Wayne Co. Health Department will be holding their “Catch Me If You Can” 5K run/walk on Saturday, May 17th from 8am until Noon.   Team Registration & Number Pick-Up will be from 7:45 to 8:15 at Frontier Community College. Run will begin at 8:30.  There is no registration fee for participants in 10-Week Wellness Challenge, $10 for Participants not in Challenge and will be added to a team for the activity stations.  Participants will register under the Fairfield Memorial Hospital Tent located on Frontier Campus.  Teams will need to decide how they will stay together, activity stations will be set up throughout route for ALL members to participate in. Entire team will walk, jog, or run together!!!  There will be an Awards Ceremony following the race to be held at Frontier Community College. Awards to Top Teams for Challenge: 5-10 Members, 11-15 Members, and 16-20 Members. Door Prizes will also be drawn at end of race.  Everyone is encouraged to take part!!

The Fairfield Business and Professional Women’s Foundation is accepting scholarship  applications for Wayne County High School Senior girls and mature women returning to college.  All scholarships awarded will be valued at $2,000.00.  All high school applications will be available in the guidance office.  The mature women scholarship application is available at Frontier Community College on the website.  The deadline for all scholarships must be postmarked by June 1, 2014.  For more information regarding scholarships contact Thea Gain at 618-842-6156 or Jane Huffman at 618-842-9518.

The Wayne County Family Enrichment Program will be holding their final Story Hour “Paws To Read” on Friday June 13, 2014 from 10-11:00 AM at the Fairfield Public Library. Saturday, July 12th

Pork Day, USA will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2014 on the square in Albion, Illinois (on the corner of Illinois Route 15 and Illinois Route 130). This is the premier summer festival in Albion and proudly supported by the City of Albion.  This year’s event will feature music by Mike Porter, Marsha Banning, and The Panther Creek Band; Dennis Stroughmatt with Swing N Country; and Ron Williams. The headline musical act will be Grand Ole Opry Star, internationally known singer/songwriter/ and musician- Leona Williams!  Other activities planned for the day include: a large parade; the 2nd annual Farm Bureau Women’s Committee BBQ cook-off; a Little Miss Contest; face painting by Alotta Fun 4U2; Don Baggett Magic Show; a kids pedal tractor pull by Play ‘N’ Hooky Pedal Tractor Pulling, LLC; and vendors featuring crafts and gifts. There will also be “old fashioned” games and contests including watermelon eating and rolling pin throwing, as well as, “new fashioned” games and contests including texting, and “I Spy”.
There will be Kids Korner featuring games, inflatables, and train rides. Hourly drawings will also be held.  A variety of fantastic food will be available from local, charitable organizations, as well as, outside vendors. This food will include BBQ from the BBQ cook-off, pork chop dinners cooked and served by the FFA Alumni, pork tenderloins cooked and served by Hermitage Lodge #356, and pork burgers cooked and served by the Farm Bureau Young Leaders.

July 13th, the First United Methodist Church will be hosting their 2nd Vacation Bible school session. The program will run from 9a.m. until 11:30a.m., for ages kindergarten (either just completed or going into this fall) thru 6th graders. Anyone interested in having their child participate should meet in the Fellowship Hall prior to 9a.m. the morning of the 13th. The theme for this Friday is Bible Boot Camp.
