90-year-old Dahlgren resident, Clara Eunice Karcher died at 4:10 p.m. Monday, Nov. 4 at Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro. She had been the head cook at the East Side Grade School in McLeansboro for many years. Following graduation from Dahlgren High School in 1941, she taught 8 grades in Burnt Hill School, a one room school house near her home. She was a charter member of the Hamilton County Homemaker’s Extension, and her group, the Eastern Star. She also served as a 4-H leader and was a charter member of the Hamilton Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.
Survivors include her husband, Cletus Karcher; four children, Mary Ann Bax and husband Matthys of Carmi; Carol Ann Gregory and husband Walter of Dow, Barbara Harmon and husband Richard of Dahlgren and Michael C. Karcher and wife Karen of Dalhgren; 7 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren.
Services for Clara Eunice Karcher will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 9 at St. John Baptist Catholic Church at Piopolis with burial in St. John’s Cemetery at Piopolis.
Visitation will be from 5 – 8 Friday evening, Nov., 8 at the Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice or the Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be accepted at the Harre Funeral Home of McLeansboro.
