89-year-old Flora resident, Dewey Leonard Porter, died at noon Friday, October 11 at Clay County Hospital in Flora. He was a farmer, carpenter, oilfield worker, and custodian at Clay City High School. He was a WW II Veteran serving in Italy. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion in Flora and a lifelong member of Red Brush Christian Church at Louisville, IL.
Surviving are two daughters, Barbara Reaves of Elkville, IL and Karen Lee of St. Elmo, IL; two sons, Rick Porter of Flora and Tyler Porter of Antioch, CA; one sister, Edna Sefton of Flora; three sisters-in-law, Bernita Porter and Beverly Gibson both of Louisville, IL and Queena McHenry of Flora; his step-mother-in-law, Martha McHenry of Flora; six grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, and several cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Dewey Leonard Porter will be at 2 p.m. Monday, October 14 at Red Brush Christian Church at Louisville, IL. Burial will be in Red Brush Cemetery, with military honors at the graveside.
Visitation will be from noon Monday, October 14 until the time of service at the church.
Memorials may be made to Clay County Health Department, and will be accepted at the church, or at the Hosselton Funeral Home in Cisne, which is in charge of the arrangements.
