Eldon “Cotton” Tungate

Tungatge IIEldon “Cotton” Tungate, 85, of Flora, died at 7:51 p.m., Thursday, April 4, 2013, at his daughter’s home in Flora. He was a lifetime member of the Flora Elks Lodge and Sons of the American Legion.  He retired from Spartan Manufacturing in 1981 as a cost accountant and personnel manager.  In later years he worked at the Flora Country Club, and in 2007  Cotton, a.k.a. “The Blonde Headed Thunderbolt” was inducted into the North Clay Sports Hall of Fame.

Surviving are his wife Caroline; two sons, Randy of Lubbock, TX and Mark of Flora; one daughter, Nancy Buchanan of Flora; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Eldon “Cotton” Tungate will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 13 at Faith Lutheran Church in Flora.  Interment will follow at Orchard Hill Cemetery in Louisville, IL.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday, April 12 at the Byrd & Kohn Funeral Home in Flora.

Memorials may be made to Clay County Hospice, and will be accepted at the Byrd & Kohn Funeral Home in Flora.
