Eleanor Rose Poore – Carmi

Eleanor Rose Poore, 80, of Carmi, Illinois, died Friday, June 18, 2021, at her home.  She was born October 14, 1940, in Enfield, Illinois, the daughter of Grant and Hattie (Hutchison) Little.  She was married to Harold “Peanuts” Poore, also affectionately known as “coach”, and he survives.

Rose attended Ashland Christian Church near Mill Shoals, Illinois, and was the secretary at First Christian Church in Carmi for over 38 ½ years.  During this time, she travelled to various church secretary organization conferences where she spoke and did various presentations.  For 42 years, she was the secretary/treasurer of the Egyptian Colt Stakes.  Many remember her column entitled “Life Through Rose Colored Glasses” that appeared regularly in the Carmi Times newspaper.  When the Carmi Invitational Basketball Tournament was formed, Rose was well known in the area as the hospitality room coordinator.  In her younger years, she and “coach” enjoyed dancing.

Survivors include her husband, Harold Poore of Carmi; daughter Tammy Knox of Shelbyville, Indiana; and granddaughter Gabrielle Knox.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers Jimmy and Dale Little; and sisters Nellie Faye Renshaw, and Wanda Lee Campbell.

Visitation and funeral are Tuesday, June 22, 2021, at Cook Funeral Chapel in Carmi. Visitation is at 9 am and funeral is at 12 noon.   Burial is in Enfield Cemetery in Enfield, Illinois.
