92-year-old West Salem resident, Ernest Schnitz died Thursday, March 14 at Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he had been a bi-plane crop duster in Southern California, an oilfield pumper, a tool and die maker for Snap-On Tools in Mt. Carmel and a farmer.
Survivors include his wife, Lucille Schnitz; a daughter Ann Krejci of Villa Grove, IL; a son, Gary Schnitz of Carmel, IN; three grandchildren; three sisters, Dorothy Gamble of Auburndale, FL, Jeanie Searby of Kell and Rosalie Griesemer of Leesburg, FL.
Services for Ernest Schnitz will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday, March 17 at the Zion United Methodist Church of West Salem with burial and military honors at Cunningham Cemetery on the Schnitz family-owned farm near Lancaster.
Visitation will be from 2 – 5 Saturday evening at the Zion United Methodist Church of West Salem.
Memorials may be made to the Zion United Methodist Church or the Cunningham Cemetery and will be accepted at the Ingram Funeral Home of West Salem, which is in charge of all the arrangements.
