A 12-year-old girl is dead after falling from a rock formation at Garden of the Gods Tuesday evening.  The name of the victim has not been released pending notification of relatives. The girl fell about 100 feet from Chimney Rock and was pronounced dead at the scene. The accident happened shortly before 6 o’clock Tuesday evening.

Six Wayne County high school seniors have been awarded Hutchison Foundation Scholarships. A $2,000 scholarship has been awarded to Katie Liston from FCHS. A $1,500 scholarship was awarded to Cisne senior Brandae Gill. $1,000 scholarships have been awarded to Tara Shreve and Kelci White of Wayne City and Shae Bullard from Cisne High School.  FCHS senior Derek Greifzu has been awarded a $500 scholarship.

Center Street School in Fairfield will hold a flag dedication ceremony at 9 a.m. Friday.  The school’s new flag has been donated by Norma Donnay and once flew over Washington, D.C.  The public is invited to attend the ceremony.

20-year-old Daniel Trenton Krueger of Dix and 27-year-old Nicholas Paul Knight of Chantilly, VA have entered guilty pleas to charges they hacked into a Navy computer system that stores the personal information of more than 200,000 service members.  Sentencing has been set for August 27.

Lamar Choate will be the featured speaker at the annual Wayne City Memorial Day observance. The service is set to begin at 2 p.m. Monday at Thomason Cemetery.   Members of the American Legion Post 176 and VFW Post 4535 will also participate in the program.
