37-year-old Derris Alldredge of Grayville was arrested Thursday afternoon on an Edwards County warrant charging him with aggravated domestic battery and domestic battery.  An off-duty Edwards County Sheriff’s Deputy spotted Alldredge in the Fairfield Wal-Mart and called Fairfield Police to make the arrest. Alldredge is being held in the jail at Carmi under $4,000 cash bond.

Two teenage boys are suspected of setting towels on fire on a clothes line at a residence on S.W. 6th St. in Fairfield.  The incident happened around 12:15 this morning.  Police have not identified the suspects yet.

The Jasper School Board has voted to adopt a one-year contract with certified employees for Fiscal Year 2013.  The contract reflects a freeze on base salaries for one year. A freeze on non-certified staff member’s salaries was also approved.

Sandra Vandeveer, a longtime employee of the Wayne County State’s Attorney’s office is recovering from a broken leg suffered in a freak accident Thursday at the courthouse.  Mrs. Vandeveer apparently tripped on a telephone cord, fell down and sustained a compound fracture of her leg just below the knee. The accident happened around 9 a.m. Thursday.

The State of Illinois is amplifying its argument that a federal judge should reject a legal push by gun-rights advocates to immediately start carrying firearms publicly, rather than waiting several months under the state’s new concealed carry law. State Police have six months to set up a concealed-carry program.

The Carter Ltd. Moto-Cross is slated for tonight at the Wayne County Fair.  The fair wraps up Saturday night with a Demo Derby.
