The total rainfall in Fairfield this year amounts to 32.95 inches, which is more than all of last year. The June rainfall total was 5.65 inches. Flora recorded 12.6 inches of rain last month.

The Little Wabash River at Carmi continues to rise. The river was at 31.68 this morning and is expected to crest at 31.9 on Saturday. Flood stage is 27 ft. The Little Wabash east of Fairfield is more than ten feet above flood stage.

33-year-old Jason P. Schneider of Carmi remains hospitalized after he jumped out of a moving vehicle early Thursday morning at the east edge of Fairfield. Schneider was airlifted to a hospital in Evansville for treatment of a severe head injury.

Illinois Troopers will be out in force this weekend, cracking down on drunk drivers. Motorists can expect to see roadside safety checks, seat belt saturation patrols and other special efforts to assure that all drivers are buckled up and not driving impaired.

The Illinois Department of Public Health has confirmed a mosquito batch in Salem has tested positive for West Nile Virus. Last week, a mosquito batch in Flora tested positive for the West Nile virus.

Illinois high school juniors will be tested on writing skills for the first time in years during standardized testing next spring. Unfortunately, the State of Illinois has not given school districts any money to carry out the testing process.
