Dahlgren bank guy

Investigators continue to follow up on leads in connection with an armed robbery at the Peoples National Bank in Dahlgren Thursday morning. No shots were fired and no one was injured during the robbery. Late Thursday afternoon, police had a suspicious vehicle towed away from the scene. It is not clear if the vehicle or its registered owner had any involvement in the robbery.

SM Energy of Denver, CO has reached its targeted depth on a test well near Johnsonville. The company is now drilling the horizontal leg of the project. Officials say it will be mid-July before they know if the well will be a success from a production standpoint.

The Wayne County Board has approved Dennis Sidell as the county’s new highway engineer.  Sidell is a licensed professional engineer and lives south of Wayne City. He currently works for a Nashville, IL engineering firm.  His hiring is contingent upon his successful completion of the Illinois Department of Transportation Engineering Exam.

The Wayne County Board has agreed to pay $60,000 for the county’s share of operating the University of Illinois Extension Service in Wayne County.  The money will go towards salaries, 4-H projects and rent.

46-year-old David Tapia of Albion has been sentenced to prison in connection with the kidnapping of his ex-girlfriend’s 13-year-old daughter last April.  In Edwards County Circuit Court Thursday, Tapia entered a guilty plea to a charge of intimidation and drew a two year prison sentence. He was also ordered to pay more than $1,600 in fines and court costs.
