Officials at the Orchardville Church report Friday that someone entered the treasurer’s office of the church and tried to break into the church safe.  A window was broken and a small amount of cash was taken from a desk drawer. Attempts to crack the safe were unsuccessful.

Fairfield City Police are investigating a report that someone entered a van owned by Cynthia Wright of Mill Shoals Friday night and stole an antique foot stool and a calculator.  The theft happened late Friday night while Ms. Wright’s van was parked on a local bank parking lot.

Crews in the Shawnee National Forest have not been able to conduct a number of scheduled controlled burns because of wet conditions.  Forest officials say the burns will help curb the potential spread of any fire that might erupt later in the year.

21-year-old Chelsea Wilkins of Centralia is dead after being shot by her father.  57-year-old Charles Wilkins told police he did not know the .9 mm handgun he pointed at his daughter was loaded. She died from a single gunshot wound to the chest.  Her father has been jailed on preliminary charges of involuntary manslaughter and for having an expired FOID card.

A blood drive has been set for today at the House of Prayer in Albion. McLean Implement is sponsoring the event, which runs from noon until 6 today.  All blood types are needed.
