Headlines for Monday, April 22, 2013

Flooding continues along area rivers. The Wabash at Mt. Carmel is forecast to crest at 28.6 feet by this Sunday – nearly ten feet above flood stage.  More rain is in the forecast for Tuesday.

A small earthquake was recorded Friday near Macedonia in rural Hamilton County. The magnitude 2.2 tremor was recorded at 11:48 a.m.  This is the second small tremor recorded near Macedonia in the past five weeks.

21-year-old Andy L. Bailey of Cisne was jailed Friday on a felony charge of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.  Bailey is accused of having unlawful sexual contact with a 14-year-old girl who was not a family member.  Fairfield City Police and the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services investigated the case.

25-year-old Sara M. King of Albion was arrested around 5 a.m. Saturday for drunk driving.  City Police found King asleep at the wheel near the pool in Leo French Park.  A search of her vehicle before it was towed away netted police a quantity of suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

HopperThe Egyptian Division of the Illinois Association of School Administrators has selected Fairfield firefighter Darin Hopper as a 2013 IASA Presidential Citation award recipient. Hopper is a former school board member for New Hope Grade School and Fairfield Community High School. He was nominated for the honor by FCHS Supt. David Savage.
