A Wind Chill Warning remains in effect for all of Southern Illinois after low temperatures dipped to minus-8 this morning.  While Fairfield recorded only 3 ½ inches of snow, much heavier snow was reported in areas to our north.  Deep drifts have been reported on many east-west country roads throughout the county.

20-year-old Tyler Hutcheson of Fairfield was arrested Friday night on a Wayne County warrant charging him with burglary and theft.  Hutcheson is accused of breaking into the Josh Lowery residence.  Bond in the case is $2,500 cash.

The Southern Illinois University basketball team was stranded on I-57 in Champaign County last night after the driver pulled over because of heavy snow and low visibility.  Unable to continue on, the bus was towed to a church in Tuscola where the team spent the night.

In December, Marilyn White, Housekeeping, was named Employee of the Month for her ability exemplify her positive spirit and talent in her work.  Marilyn loves job and takes pride in her work.  The visitors and staff in the areas she cleans often say, “She makes this place smell wonderful!” Kim Heisner, Director of Housekeeping Services, states “Marilyn is a wonderful, caring, giving, concerned person. She is a very hard worker and attempts to please all of our customers. She is currently cleaning on the day shift the Medical Arts Complex and Administration area.

All area schools and most colleges cancelled classes today because of poor driving conditions and bitterly cold weather.
