matthew martin booking photo41-year-old Matthew W. Martin of Albion has been found guilty of charges he sexually abused a female relative under the age of 13. Martin, a local butcher, Martin stands convicted of two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault and two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse. Circuit Judge David Frankland will sentence Martin on June 21 at 10 a.m. He faces up to 30 years in prison on the most serious of the offenses – two Class-X felony charges of predatory criminal sexual assault.  Martin remains in the White County jail at Carmi pending sentencing. Judge Frankland found Martin guilty this afternoon following a one-day bench trial in Edwards County Circuit Court.

Fairfield Community High School’s Graduation was held Sunday afternoon in the FCHS Gym. There were 80 graduates this year. Addison Shreve was named class Valedictorian with Storm Kollack the Salutatorian. Dyllan Bailey and Emily McKibben were recipients of the annual American Legion Awards with runners up being Caleb Koker and Alison Curtner. This year, over $450,000 in scholarship money was awarded to FCHS Students during their annual awards’ ceremony earlier this month.

Ten Wayne County high school seniors planning to attend college and six students now attending college are the recipients of Hutchison Foundation Scholarships totaling $12,000. Receiving $2,000 scholarships are Amber Scarbrough from Fairfield Community High School and Kristen Keele from Wayne City High School.  Receiving $1,000 scholarships are Quade Harvey and Emily McKibben from FCHS and Lucretia Mills at Cisne High.  Awarded $800 scholarships were Dyllan Bailey of FCHS, and Nubia Calderon and Brittany Hedden at Wayne City.   $400 scholarships went to Ali Curtner and Kali Smith of FCHS. The $300 Past Recipient Awards went to Kayla Burner, Tyler Dobbs, Kelby Fenton, Charsie Haygood, Sylvia Haygood, and Amy Scarbrough.

19-year-old Tyler A. Craig of Fairfield was jailed Sunday night on a charge of domestic battery.  Craig is accused of dragging his girlfriend by the hair, and punching her during an argument at a home on Ash Street.  Craig was jailed shortly before 8 p.m.

Funeral services have been set for four siblings killed Friday in an arson fire in the small Randolph County community of Percy. Services for 12-year-old Ethan Owen, 9-year-old Kailey Owen and 5-year-old twins Brandon and Landon Owen will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Steelville.

The Southern Illinois University Board of Trustees have approved a 5% tuition increase for the 2013-14 school year.  Trustees also approved a three percent tuition increase for students enrolled in the professional schools of Dental Medicine and Pharmacy.

Wayne County Golf Course will host its first tournament of the season this Saturday. The 27-hole two-man Chicken Feed Scramble is sponsored by Edward Jones Investments representative Andrew Diesel and Midway Package Liquors.  The signup sheet is located outside the pro shop.
