The Fairfield Community High School Homecoming Coronation and Dance will be held tonight starting at 7 p.m.  This year’s Queen candidates are Sydney Vaughn, Kayla Cessna, Janae Garrett and Katie Liston.  The dance will be held from 8 to 11 p.m.  The theme of this year’s Homecoming is “Paris by Moonlight”.

Winners were named Friday in the FCHS Homecoming Parade.  In the class category, first place went to the Sophomore class entry, second to the Freshman class and third to the Junior class.  In the non-class category, first place went to the entry from the Fairfield FFA.  Second place was a tie between the Fairfield JV cheerleaders and the Jasper Grade School cheerleaders.  Third place went to the Jasper Grade School 5th grade class entry.

The FCHS Alumni Association will hold its 49th annual dinner and homecoming this evening at 5 p.m. at the Community of Christ Church Family Life Center in Fairfield.  The class of 1963 is being saluted this year.  The featured speaker will be Gene Martin, who has served in various capacities of education for the past 46 years, and remains active today as a professor at Texas State University in San Marcos.

42-year-old Timothy Newell of Bonnie, IL has been arrested and charged with murder.  Jefferson County Sheriff Roger Mulch reports Newell was taken into custody on an arrest warrant charging him with the murder of 84-year-old Rita E. Newell of Bonnie, IL.  Timothy Newell had been living at the same residence where Rita E. Newell’s body was found on October 3rd.  Bond on Timothy Newell has been set at five million dollars.

Illinois State Police released information Friday on the regulatory requirements for the concealed carry signage under the Firearm Concealed Carry Act.  Individuals licensed to carry a concealed firearm are prohibited from carrying a firearm onto prohibited areas listed under the act, and private property owners wishing to prohibit the carrying of firearms must clearly post the Illinois State Police approved sign on the entrance to their property.  A template of the approved sign for use can be downloaded from the Illinois State Police website.  Concealed Carry permit applications will be available on the ISP website by January 5th.

Most of Illinois was dry and warm for September.  The statewide rainfall was just under two inches, more than an inch below average and the 14th driest September on record.  A few areas, including the southeast corner of Illinois, recorded three inches or more of rain in September.
