The Edwards County Community Unit School Board meets Monday night.  The board is expected to employ a Junior High Math teacher and a Truancy Interventionist during Monday’s meeting, as well as an Albion Grade School Volleyball coach and a seasonal maintenance worker.  A Public Hearing will be held prior to Monday’s regular meeting to review the amended 2012-2013 district budget.

Power is scheduled to be out in parts of Fairfield Tuesday morning, weather permitting.  The areas to be affected are the 1100 and 1200 blocks of SW 6th Street, the 500 and 600 blocks of West Wilson Street, the 1100 and 1200 blocks of Illinois Avenue and the 400 and 500 blocks of Broadway Avenue.  The outage should last about two hours.  Workers will be performing required power line maintenance.

Governor Pat Quinn launched his “Where the Fresh Is” campaign Saturday, encouraging residents to purchase Illinois’-produced fruits and vegetables.  The campaign is part of the governor’s agenda to promote Illinois products and create jobs across the state.  As part of the campaign, Illinois’ specialty crops will be highlighted each month.  The crops include strawberries and blueberries in June.  Illinois also ranks in the top ten in the nation in the production of other crops, including asparagus, cauliflower, green peas and lima beans, brining in nearly $400 million in sales for farmers.

Boaters in Illinois could face harsher penalties if they’re found to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs.  The state General Assembly approved a measure earlier this spring that would allow the state to suspend or revoke a person’s drivers license if they’re involved in a serious boating accident and found to be impaired.  A spokesman for Governor Quinn said he supports the measure.

Eldorado, IL based Med Force EMS has been contracted to provide emergency medical service for residents in Gallatin County.  Published reports indicate a two-year contract was approved by the Gallatin County Board last month and went into effect June 1st.  A new $105,000 ambulance was recently purchased, which will be stationed in Ridgway.  Med Force EMS also operates an ambulance base in Harrisburg and Eldorado, IL.
