It could be another day or two before authorities can positively identify a man whose body was found floating in the Wabash River near Patton Monday night.  An autopsy was completed Wednesday in Vincennes, IN.  Authorities say the man could be an individual who went into the river from a bridge in Vincennes on February 8. Until dental records and other tests are completed, the man’s identity cannot be confirmed.

New Hope Kindergarten teacher Debbie Webb has been named the Fairfield Lions Club Teacher of the Year.  Mrs. Webb was honored Tuesday night during the club’s annual Star Student Program.

White County Sheriff Doug Maier reports that burglars have been busy this week in his county.  Thieves made off with a 9.9 HP boat motor from property owned by Mark Cox of Newburgh, IN.  Thieves also stole a loaded .22 pistol from the Darrin R. Vines residence in White County.

Authorities say they do not suspect foul play in the death of a man whose body was found in a burning car outside a bowling alley in Herrin last Saturday.  33-year-old Shawn Saltzman of rural Simpson died of smoke inhalation. The blaze caught two other vehicles on fire.

The Wayne County Retired Teachers’ Association is offering a $500 scholarship to a graduate of a Wayne County high school that has declared a major in education and has accumulated at least 80 semester hours toward that degree. More information is available from Michael Simpson at 842-7004.
