The projected corn yield in White County has been pegged at 156.3 bushels per acre. The forecast yield was announced following the annual White County Crop Tour, sponsored by the White County Farm Bureau. The forecast yield compares to last year’s actual yield of 67.6 bushels per acre. The highest forecast yields were seen in Indian Creek Township at 163.4 bushels per acre. The lowest was in Burnt Prairie Township at 148.2 bushels per acre.

Wayne County Golf Course concluded the 2013 Men’s League season on Monday night August 20th with a scramble followed by the awards dinner in the club house. In the 2-man league playoffs in the previous week with 20 teams competing, Chuck Griswold and Kyle Kakac won the championship title over Jed Foster and Bob Hawkins. Kakac’s par 35 was his career best for nine holes. Bill and Rick Book won 3rd place over last year’s champs, Ray Elliot and Terry Powell. Elastec/American Marine recently received the Exporter Continuing Excellence Award from Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn. The award recognizes Elastec’s accomplishments in the export of Illinois goods and services around the world. 70% of Elastec/American Marine’s sales are international. The company manufactures oil spill equipment. They operate manufacturing plants in Carmi and Fairfield.
The Coffee Cottage & Café in Evansville has been awarded the Evansville Courier-Press Readers’ Choice Award Gold Winner for “Best Place for Breakfast”. This is the third year for the honor. The café is operated by Mill Shoals native, Jill Carter.
27-year-old Darnel L. Wells of 1103 D. SW 6th Street in Fairfield was arrested Wednesday night for domestic battery. Wells is accused of shoving his girlfriend, 20-year-old Brittany L. Keller during an argument. Wells was jailed on a preliminary charge of domestic battery.
