The prosecchhabraution has dropped felony sex charges against a Southern Illinois doctor accused of forcibly assaulting a female patient at his clinic in Norris City. The sexual assault case of Dr. Jogendra S. Chhabra, 57 of Marion actually went to trial in February, but ended in a mistrial. The jury was unable to reach a verdict after more than 8 hours of deliberations. White County State’s Attorney Denton Aud dismissed the charges on Wednesday. Dr. Chhabra’s license to practice medicine in Illinois is still suspended.

Three suspects have been arrested in connection with the theft of three vehicles from Expressway Credit Connections in Evansville. One suspect was arrested when the stolen Dodge Avenger he was driving broke down on I-64 in White County. Two more suspects were arrested in Marion when the stolen Ford Fusion they were driving ran out of gas in front of the VA Medical Center. The third vehicle, a Chrysler 300 is still missing. The suspects are said to be gang members from St. Louis.

Brandy Crane of Fairfield has been hired as the part-time Library Clerk at Frontier Community College’s Learning Resource Center. A graduate of Blackburn College in Carlinville, she is the daughter of Rick and Lee Ann Crane of Fairfield.

Ashlee Spannagel has been hired as a Retention Coordinator at Frontier Community College in Fairfield.  Her job is to focus on improving student success and degree completion. She lives in Geff with her husband, Brian. Ashlee is the daughter of Scott and Angie Lambrich.

Officials with the McDaniel & Lee Family Funeral Home in Sparta are defending their decision to hold on to the cremains of two people who died last year until their survivors pay the outstanding funeral expenses and related interest.  Officials with the funeral home say that until the families pay up, the cremains will be kept at the funeral home.
