At least three people in two states have beaten astronomical odds to become the nation’s latest Powerball millionaires.  Unfortunately, none of the winning tickets were sold in Illinois. Two grand prize tickets were sold in New Jersey and one in Minnesota. The jackpot was $448 million.

Charlton Greathouse, an Edwards County 4-H member will be participating in state competition for Master Showmanship this Friday at the Illinois State Fair. The Master Showmanship contest recognizes 4-H youth who have excelled at showing animals county-wide.

The Fairfield Community High School Board will meet in special session tonight to discuss contract negotiations with the bargaining unit representing FCHS teachers. The meeting will start at 6 p.m. and will be conducted in executive session.

The condition of Illinois’s corn crop has been rated at 72% good to excellent this week.  More than 30% of the crop has already entered the dough stage.  Nearly 75% of the state’s soybean crop is rated at good to excellent.

Edwards County Treasurer Cindy Hocking says Real Estate tax bills will be mailed out the week of August 19.  The first installment will be due on Sept. 25. The second installment will be due no later than Oct. 28.  Edwards County expects to collect $5.11 million in Real Estate tax this year.
