Evelyn BlanchardEvelyn Blanchard has joined Horizon Healthcare in Fairfield as a Physician Assistant.  She began her duties this week.  Blanchard earned her Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from SIU-Carbondale in 2010. She is a veteran of the U.S. Army where she served as a Medical Laboratory Specialist and Research Technician.  She also has forensic science experience with the Illinois State Police as a Biology/DNA Evidence Technician.  She comes to Fairfield from a family practice position in Robinson.

Flu activity is increasing across Illinois.  Widespread flu is now being reported, according to officials with the Illinois Department of Public Health.  A flu shot is recommended for anyone over the age of 6 months. This season, 122 flu-related intensive care unit hospitalizations have been recorded, along with six flu-related ICU deaths.

Frontier Community College is in search of an original design depicting their new mascot – the bobcat.  The competition is open to the public.  The first place entry will be awarded $3,000.  The mascot design will be displayed on sportswear and accessories for men’s and women’s golf and cross country teams and will be showcased on other items, including bookstore items, tee shirts and the Frontier website. Wabash Independent Network has announced they will award scholarships again to 2014 graduates.  Applications will be accepted until March 1.  More information is available on the Wabash Telephone Cooperative website.
