33-year-old Jason P. Schneider of Carmi was critically injured early this morning after jumping out of a moving car on Rt. 15 at the east edge of Fairfield.  Wayne County Sheriff’s Police said Schneider was a passenger in a van driven by his estranged wife, 23-year-old Amy Schneider. Jason Schneider allegedly jumped out of the moving vehicle during an argument with his wife. He was taken to Fairfield Memorial Hospital and later airlifted to a hospital in Evansville for treatment of a severe head injury.

Fireworks displays in Fairfield and Flora have been cancelled for tonight.  Both displays were cancelled due to wet field conditions where cars normally park.  Fairfield’s fireworks show has been rescheduled for Sept. 2 – Labor Day.

Area rivers are still out of their banks. The Little Wabash east of Fairfield is now nearly 12 feet above flood stage and is now covering a wide area of bottom land crops.

Wayne County Road 1200 N, .8 of a mile east of Enterprise Road has been closed until further notice after a bridge over Polecat Creek failed during recent flooding.

Bond has been set at $300,000 for the former Finance Officer at Wayne-White Electric in Fairfield.  Bruce Johnson stands accused of forging checks at the co-op. Fairfield City Police say the investigation of Johnson is open and ongoing.

17-year-olds in Illinois will be able to vote in primary elections. Gov. Quinn signed the measure into law Wednesday.  The measure states that if a teen will turn 18 by the general election they can vote in the primary.
