The mayor of Bridgeport, IL has entered a guilty plea to three federal charges of mail fraud and one charge of obstruction of justice. Max R. Schauf, 56 will be sentenced August 8 and faces up to 8 years in prison. He stands convicted of defrauding the city of Bridgeport by submitting fraudulent invoices, contracts and bills for various services and equipment.

35-year-old Joseph A. Hyder of Fairfield was jailed Wednesday night on a charge of domestic battery.  Hyder is accused of beating up 27-year-old Ashley R. Cline at her home on Spring Street at about 9:45 Wednesday night.

Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan is moving forward with a plan to require local school districts to pay their share of teacher pensions. Currently, the state covers pension payments. If approved, the measure would worsen local school district’s financial problems and could potentially cause property taxes to rise.

Illinois State Police say they have a backlog of more than 76,000 applications for FOID cards.  In April alone, the agency received more than 28,600 FOID card applications.

The Illinois Eastern Community College Nursing Program held its first induction ceremony for the Alpha Delta Nu Nursing Honor Society.  Five Frontier Community College nursing students were inducted.
