A Harrisburg woman has been indicted by a Federal Grand Jury on charges she defrauded the Social Security Administration and Department of Veterans Affairs out of nearly $500,000.  51-year-old Terri Ann Deneal was indicted Wednesday in U.S. District Court at Benton. If convicted, she faces up to 20 years in prison.

21-year-old Landon Rudolph of Carmi has been sentenced to four years in prison after pleading guilty to charges of delivery of marijuana in White County. He received a concurrent 4 year sentence after his probation was revoked on a conviction of burglary.

Illinois State Police recently conducted an Alcohol Countermeasure Enforcement or ACE Patrol in Wayne County, arresting one suspected drunk driver. Officers wrote a total of four tickets and issued 15 written warnings during the detail.

Rhonda Smith of Mount Carmel was injured this week when a tire from a semi came off and crashed into the Lexus SUV she was riding in on Walnut Street in Mount Carmel.  The driver of the SUV, Jeffery Smith wasn’t hurt. The semi driver was not ticketed.

Enrollment at Southern Illinois University Carbondale is down for the ninth year in a row.    Enrollment this year totals 17,964 students – down 883 from last year.

Edwards County Treasurer Cindy Hocking says she will not seek a ninth term in office. Her term in office will end on Nov. 30, 2014.
