South First Street at the Norfolk Southern Railroad crossing in Fairfield will be closed for five days later this month for major repairs. Weather permitting, the rail crossing will be closed from Monday, July 22 through Friday, July 26.  A detour is planned, utilizing city streets.


The Wayne County Crimestoppers board met Monday night, voting to pay a $300 cash reward for information that led to the arrest of 27-year-old Eddie Morton of Fairfield on charges he was in possession of methamphetamine.  Morton was arrested May 14 following a traffic stop in Wayne City.


23-year-old Ricky R. Rush of Carmi has been sentenced to six years in prison after pleading guilty in White County Circuit Court to a charge of domestic battery.  He drew concurrent 7 year sentences after his probation was revoked on a 2012 conviction of aggravated battery and a 2011 conviction of unlawful procurement of anhydrous ammonia.


White County Sheriff’s Police are investigating the shooting death of a 1 1/2-year-old Doberman in his pen at a residence in Crossville. Evidence shows the dog was shot twice with a .9 mm weapon. A third shot hit the fence and disintegrated.  The incident happened on the Fourth of July at about 3:30 a.m. The dog belonged to Christopher Mercer and Amanda K. Wells of Potter Street in Crossville.


The Flora Fireworks Show has been rescheduled for this Friday night. The Kiwanis Club-sponsored show will be staged at Charley Brown Park. Fairfield Fireworks Show has been re-set for Labor Day.
