An Indiana State trooper has arrested four suspects accused of stealing fifteen copper truck radiators from Robertson’s Welding and Repair in Sims. Three of the suspects are from Philadelphia, PA, the third is from Florida. The three were nabbed on I-64 about four miles west of U.S. Highway 41 north of Evansville.
Widely known oil producer and local philanthropist Bernard Podolsky of Fairfield has died. He was 97. Through the Bernard and Naomi Podolsky Charitable Trust, seniors from Wayne County high schools have been given the opportunity to visit Washington DC, including a tour of the U.S. Holocaust Museum. The Podolsky Trust also supports the music department at Fairfield Community High School. Services for Mr. Podolsky are pending at the Johnson & Vaughn Funeral Home in Fairfield.
36-year-old Jamie Casey of Carmi has been sentenced to three years in prison after her probation for a burglary conviction was revoked in White County. White County State’s Attorney Denton Aud reports Casey’s probation on a class-2 felony burglary conviction was revoked based on her guilty plea to a class-4 retail theft charge and her failure to report to probation officials since July of last year. In addition to three years in prison she was ordered to pay $693 in court costs and restitution. She was also given credit for 84 days spent in the county jail awaiting disposition of her case.
Edwards County State’s Attorney Michael Valentine reports the arrest of a Princeton, IN man on multiple felony charges of intimidation. 33-year-old Luther L. Wilkerson (pictured) faces 8 class-3 felony charges of intimidation. He is being held under $80,000 in the White County jail. He is accused of making repeated calls to his estranged wife, threatening to harm her and other family members.
The Edwards County High School Scholastic Bowl team captured the IHSA Fairfield regional title Monday night with a victory over Flora in the Championship game. The team is coached by Lois Mann and Will Swardstrom.
Officials with Lake Land College in Mattoon have announced that Dr. Matt Fowler, president of Wabash Valley College in Mount Carmel will not become their new president. Last month, Dr. Fowler was named one of three finalists for the job.
The Original Company, parent company of WFIW-WOKZ has announced that Bruce Dickey of Fairfield has been hired as an account representative. In addition to sales duties, Dickey will handle numerous aspects of the sports department.
