Richards_Sarah_AwardFrontier Community College President Dr. Tim Taylor presented the Jerry R. Hefley President’s Award to Sarah Richards during the 35th annual commencement ceremony on May 10.  The award is based upon academic achievement, community service, and outstanding character.  Sarah is a member of Phi Theta Kappa National Honor Society and named to the Phi Theta Kappa All-Illinois Academic Team.  While a student at Frontier Community College, Sarah achieved the President’s Honors List and was named to Who’s Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges. Her future plans are to transfer to USI to pursue a bachelor’s degree in education to become an elementary school teacher.  Sarah is the daughter of Clay and Barbie Richards of Fairfield.

The Fairfield City Council meets tonight for the swearing in of new members including newly-elected Mayor Chuck Griswold. Tonight’s meeting starts at 6 p.m. in the council chambers of city hall.

41-year-old Matthew W. Martin of Albion has been found guilty of sexually abusing a female family member under the age of 13.  Martin faces up to 30 years in prison when he is sentenced June 21 on convictions of Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault and Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse.

20-year-old Harley Wayne Lewallen of Carmi has been sentenced to four years in prison after entering a guilty plea to a class-3 felony charge of unlawful delivery of cannabis. White County State’s Attorney Denton Aud says the state has recommended that Lewallen serve his time in the Illinois Department of Correction’s Impact Incarceration Program – more commonly known as boot camp.

37-year-old Caleb D. Campbell of Crossville has been jailed on charges he burglarized the Travis Irvine property in rural White County.  Campbell has been jailed under $3,500 cash bond.

47-year-old Craig L. Fenton of rural Bluford has been arrested on a federal warrant charging him with being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.  Fenton has been lodged in the Wayne County jail pending transfer into the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
