The Fairfield Community High School Boys Track Team has won the Black Diamond Conference Championship!
The Fairfield Grade School Board Monday night voted to place a one percent sales tax referendum on the November ballot. The money, if approved by the voters in the district, can only be used for school facilities. Last week, the Fairfield High School Board voted to table the same question until a later meeting.
Center Street graduation is set for tonight at 7 p.m. in the Center Street gym. Board President, Gene Kollak will present the diplomas. Bert Engelkes will present the American Legion Awards.
50-year-old Louis E. Banks of Carmi has been sentenced to 40 years in prison after pleading guilty to having unlawful sexual contact with a victim under the age of 13. Banks entered a guilty plea to the Class-X felony charge Monday in White County Circuit Court in Carmi. Banks has been in the White County jail under $250,000 bond since his arrest on Dec. 19 of last year.
23-year-old Daniel Martin of Fairfield has been jailed for failure to register as a sex offender. Martin moved to Fairfield from Michigan and failed to register as required by law. He was also living within 500 feet of a local day care center. The arrest was made Monday by City Police.
60-year-old Jay V. Jackson of Cincinnati, OH has been sentenced to charges related to a quick-change artist scheme carried out at a Carmi business. Jackson was sentenced to 180 days in the county jail and given credit for 22 days spent in custody awaiting trial. He was also ordered to pay $180 restitution to the victim in the case. The judge stayed Jackson’s jail sentence and also placed him on 2 years of conditional discharge.
