Reed, ZacharyIn Edwards County Circuit Court Tuesday, Zachary B. Reed, 26 of Ellery was sentenced to 42 months in prison after entering a guilty plea to a charge of burglary. The original case was filed in August of 2011 in Edwards County Circuit Court.  Reed is being held in the White County jail at Carmi pending transfer to the Illinois Department of Corrections to begin serving his time.

 

The Fairfield City Council Tuesday night approved spending $240,000 over the next four years to repair or replace sidewalks throughout the city. The project was proposed by outgoing Alderman Tom Tucker and approved by the entire council.

The City Council Tuesday night approved a $50,500 change order for the company constructing a new raw water intake facility at the Little Wabash River.  The engineer overseeing the project suggested that some old valves at the river be bypassed, resulting in the sharp increase in the contract cost.

Fairfield Aldermen approved a $26,991 change order for the contractor building the new water treatment plant east of Fairfield.  Officials with Curry Construction Company said they needed the increase in the contract cost because of unexpected costs incurred by subcontractors on the job.  The increase was approved without objection.

Fairfield municipal foreman Kenny Foley has announced he is retiring.  Foley will retire effective the end of April.

The Centralia Regional Mail Processing Center is closing its doors Friday.  Mail that used to be sent to the regional sorting center at Centralia will now be sent to St. Louis for sorting.  U.S. Postal Service officials say the change should not slow down mail delivery.
