A Bluford man was jailed early this morning after a Wayne County Sheriff’s Department officer pulled his vehicle over for weaving and discovered drugs and a loaded handgun. Craig L. Fenton, 47 of Bluford has been lodged in the Wayne County jail on preliminary charges of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, unlawful use of weapons, having no FOID card, possession of ammo without a FOID card, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Deputy Chris Otey pulled Fenton’s vehicle over on U.S. Rt. 45 in Cisne for crossing the center line, and noticed the driver was acting very nervous. Otey’s K-9 BOLO alerted on the vehicle for the presence of drugs. A subsequent search of Fenton’s vehicle revealed a quantity of suspected meth, marijuana, two sets of scales, a loaded .38 caliber Colt revolver, and $482 in cash – which included $450 rolled up and secured with a rubber band.
The Fairfield Lions Club has selected Addison Shreve as the Star Student for 2013. Addison is the daughter of Randall and Terri Shreve. She is a senior at FCHS and has been involved in her school, community and church activities. Addison named Angie Hout as her grade school Star Teacher. She is a Junior High teacher at Center Street School. She named FCHS Math Teacher Tammy Austin as her high school Star Teacher. Debbie Webb has been named the Lions Club Teacher of the Year. Debbie is a Kindergarten teacher at New Hope School. Mrs. Webb involves the parents and grandparents in her classroom.
Investigators are awaiting the results of an autopsy before releasing the identity of a man found in the Wabash River near Patton Monday night. Wabash County Coroner Larry Hodgson says an autopsy will be conducted today in Vincennes, IN. Wabash County Sheriff Joe Keeling says there were no obvious signs of foul play in the man’s death.
An Albion teen pleaded guilty Tuesday to a number of felony charges related to the theft of items from the Edwards County Highway Department, possession of stolen vehicles from JDL Industries in Albion, and damage to vehicles at Edwards County Motors in Albion. Cody Brown, 17 will be sentenced June 7. He posted bond and has been released pending sentencing. Brown’s co-defendant, Brandon Trost of Albion remains in the White County jail at Carmi awaiting trial.
Two truckers were seriously injured Tuesday morning when their 2013 Freightliner ran off of I-64 in western Wayne County and overturned in the median. The driver, 38-year-old Orlando Vallero was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon. A passenger, Kevin Elliott, 36 of Mayo, FL was airlifted from the scene to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.
The Consolidated Municipal Elections are coming up next Tuesday. Locally, incumbent mayor Mickey Borah faces a challenge from Chuck Griswold. Wet-Dry votes are also on the ballot in McLeansboro and Albion. Voters in Harrisburg will decide if they want to tear down their historic high school and replace it with a modern $29 million structure.
Wayne County Golf Course is offering free golf including cart and lunch on Saturday, April 13 during their annual Membership Drive and Open House. Guests and potential new members who play golf at the open house will be entered into a drawing for a free individual or family membership.
