A Salem man has been indicted by a Wayne County Grand Jury on a Class-X felony charge of home invasion. Curtis A. Ferrell, 27 of Salem was taken into custody Tuesday on indictments charging him with home invasion, unlawful restraint and criminal damage to property. His bond has been set at $100,000. The incident dates back to February 6, Wayne County Sheriff’s Police say. Ferrell is accused of showing up at the home of his ex-girlfriend, 24-year-old Brittany Steward of rural Xenia a little before 11 p.m. Steward told police that when she wouldn’t allow Ferrell into her home, he allegedly started stabbing her front door with a knife, and eventually kicked the door open, pushed her to the floor and smashed her phone as she tried to call for help.
21-year-old Cody McVaigh of rural Bluford has been jailed on a felony charge of aggravated criminal sexual abuse. McVaigh is accused of having unlawful sexual contact with a girl between the ages of 13-17. He is being held in the Wayne County jail under $5,000 cash bond. Illinois State Police detectives investigated the case against McVaigh.
Both drivers involved in a two-car crash near Harrisburg Tuesday have been arrested for DUI-Drugs. The drivers have been identified as James R. Eudy, 59 and Jason Morse, 37 both of Harrisburg. The accident happened on IL Rt. 13 at Lover’s Lane near Harrisburg around 4:15 Tuesday afternoon. No one was injured.
48-year-old James Scott Keepes of Mount Carmel faces multiple charges following a traffic accident on Fifth Street in Mt. Carmel. Keepes faces charges of DUI, driving revoked, reckless driving, domestic battery, aggravated battery to a police officer and warrants out of Wabash and Edwards Counties. Police Say Keepes’ Chevy Avalanche went out of control after crossing the Fifth Street levee at a high rate of speed and landed in a ditch.
Cody D. Gregory, 23 of Johnsonville was arrested Tuesday for being in possession of meth and driving on a suspended license. Wayne County deputies arrested Gregory early Tuesday morning after finding glass smoking pipes and a quantity of suspected meth in the console of his Nissan X-Terra.
Amy Frymire, a nurse at Horizon Healthcare in Fairfield has been named the Employee of the Month at Fairfield Memorial Hospital. Amy holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from the University of Southern Indiana and is Dr. Wesley Thompson’s nurse.
The Cisne FFA finished as the 1st place team in the Section 23 Poultry Career Development Event held February 28, 2013, at North Clay High School. Four Cisne members were recognized as top ten overall individuals: Nicole Jordan 1st, Amber Atteberry -2nd , River Williams – 6th , and Nick Konopasek – 10th. Other team members included: Whitney Pogue, Noah Barnard, Zack Allison, CJ McInnis, Donovan Lee, and Bayli Gill. Sixty-five students from ten area schools judged live birds, dressed birds, interior and exterior quality of eggs, chicken patties, identified retail poultry cuts, and completed a written poultry exam.
