A new steeple has been installed atop the Moravian Church in West Salem. The belfry was installed early Tuesday morning. The steeple was added shortly before noon with workers installing a 14 feet cross shortly after 1 o’clock. The steeple had to be replaced after a windstorm heavily damaged it in 2011. Campbellsville Industries of Campbellsville, KY fabricated the steeple and did the installation Tuesday.
19-year-old Rachel L. Evans of Harrisburg was injured Wednesday night when the 2005 Mazda Tribute she was driving ran off U.S. Rt. 45 in rural White County and overturned. She was taken to Ferrell Hospital following the 10:27 p.m. crash.
There has been a change in the agenda of this month’s meeting of the Fairfield Community High School Board. At Thursday night’s meeting of the board, members will be asked to accept the resignation of Music Instructor Rachel Dinwiddie. Members are also expected to approve this year’s graduation date for Sunday, May 12 at 2 p.m.
The Illinois Department of Revenue is proposing a simple yet major change to the Farmland Assessment Law in Illinois. The proposed legislation would insert the phrase “of the median cropped soil” into the decades old bill. The change in the law could increase farmland assessments in Wayne County 3,000% over the next 15-20 years. An informational meeting about the change has been set for Wednesday, April 10 at the First Christian Church in Fairfield. The meeting will start at 7 p.m. Individuals are asked to register for the meeting by phoning the Farm Bureau office at 842-3342.
The Cisne FFA had a successful evening at the District 5 Parliamentary Procedure Contest recently at SIU-Carbondale. The Cisne team placed First out of 10 other Section winners.
