A Carbondale man was killed Tuesday night when his Jeep ran off Ill. Rt. 161 near Johnsonville and overturned. Wayne County Coroner Jimmy Taylor reports 37-year-old Kevin L. Kimmell of Carbondale was traveling westbound on 161 about six miles west of Johnsonville when his vehicle ran off the road and overturned several times. Kimmell was ejected from the Jeep as he was not wearing a seat belt. Kimmell was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash was reported at 8:30 Tuesday night
The Fairfield Elks #1631, Scholarship Chairperson Jason Musgrave (pictured left) recently presented awards during the FCHS Awards Program for two Local Scholarship winners. The recipients are Kali Smith & Will Griffith receiving $250 each.
The Fairfield City Council Tuesday night approved a contract with Precise Construction of Vandalia to build a new T-Hangar at the Fairfield Municipal Airport. 90% of the cost will come from a government grant with 10% provided by the City of Fairfield. The project should be completed by the end of the year.
Garbage pickup rates are going up in Fairfield. Republic Services have raised their rate from $8.75 to $9.01 per month.
The City Council Tuesday night reversed its previous decision to eliminate uniforms for city workers. Mayor Charles Griswold noted that the current IBEW contract ensures that city workers are provided uniforms. Mayor Griswold added that if the city provides the uniforms, workers will be required to wear them.
Kali Smith, a 2013 graduate of Fairfield Community High School has been awarded a $500 scholarship from the Illinois Municipal Utilities Association. Kali is the daughter of DeWayne and Ruth Kissner of Fairfield.
Fairfield City Police are investigating an act of vandalism at the Fairfield License Branch offices. Someone used a BB gun to shoot five holes in the two front windows of the building.
The 2012 Wayne County Board of Review is in session. Complaints must be filed at the office of the Supervisor of Assessments no later than June 27.
