98-year-old former Carmi resident, Helen Perdue of Fairfield died at 6:25 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 30 at Way-Fair in Fair in Fairfield. Her first job in Carmi was at The National Bank. She was also employed at Boren’s Grocery, worked many years at the Carmi Times Publishing Company in the front office, had worked for the White County Bridge Commission and had volunteered at the White County Senior Citizens Center. A member of the American Legion and VFW Auxiliaries, she held all of the chairs in the VFW Post 3851 Auxiliary and served one term as 13th district VFW Auxiliary President. She was also a past secretary of the Belleville Diocesan Council of Catholic Women.
Survivors include a daughter, Susan Murphy of Fairfield and two grandchildren, Debby Hyatt and husband Nic of Carmi and James Michael Murphy and wife Marla of Bowling Green, KY and Mike and Marla’s children, Kennedi and Morganne; a sister, Leona Kohorst of Springfield and many nieces and nephews.
Services for Helen Perdue will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4 at St. Polycarp Catholic Church in Carmi with burial in St. Polycarp Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 – 7 Tuesday evening, Dec. 3 at the Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi with a Rosary service at 6:30 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the White County Senior Citizens or The Way-Fair activity fund and will be accepted at the Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi.
