Saturday, September 4th
The 2010 Elm River Chowder will be held on Saturday, September 4th, located just 4 miles east of the Rinard Crossroads. The cost is donation only. Porkburgers, hotdogs, icecream, cold drinks, and chowder by the bowl will be available. Live music, door prizes, and a 50/5o drawing will take place. No glass or plastic containers. Everyone is welcome.
The Mill Shoals Ruritans will hold their chowder on Saturday, September 4th at the Mill Shoals Ruritan Building at 11:00 a.m. The public is invited. The cost is $16 per gallon or $6 for chowder, dessert, and a drink. Everyone is welcome.
Monday, September 6th
The Calhoun Community Club's Labor Day Chowder will be held today (9/6) starting at 11:00 a.m. They will have chowder, sandwiches, pies, cakes, and drinks. Everyone is welcome!
The Wayne County Tractor Drive will be held on Monday, Labor Day, September 6. Registration begins at 8:00 a.m. at the Wayne County Fairgrounds. Tractors will depart the fairgrounds at 10:00 a.m. and travel to Shreve’s Pumpkin Batch in southeastern Wayne County. Public viewing and lunch will be available from 11:30 – 2:00 p.m. Tractors will travel back to Fairfield and return to the fairgrounds around 3:30 p.m. Registration is $30 per tractor. Thursday, September 9th
The Kaskaskia River District United Methodist Women Fall Meeting will be held on September 9th at the Mt. Vernon Wesley United Methodist Church, located at State Route 37 North in Mt. Vernon. Registration and fellowship will start at 9:00 a.m. with the meeting beginning at 9:30 a.m. The morning and afternoon sessions will feature guest speakers. A Family Health Carnival will be held this afternoon (9/10) from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Frontier College Workforce Development Center, brought to you by Fairfield Memorial Hospital. Free Health Booths, Activities, and Entertainment will be provided. The event schedule includes: 3:30 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. Rollover Car Demonstration by the Illinois State Police, 4:30 p.m. Wayne Hart, Chief Meteorologist of News 25, 5:00 p.m. Jaws of Life Extrication Presentation by the Fairfield Fire Department, and 5:30 p.m. Pole Top Trauma Rescue by Frontier College, Fairfield Memorial Hospital, Wayne County Ambulance, and Air Evac Lifeteam. Everyone is welcome!
The Center Street School 4th grade will have a special September 11th Remeberance event at Freedom Park in Fairfield today (9/10) at 10:00 a.m. The 4th graders will sing songs, say the pledge, and honor civil servants, veterans, and local authorities. Everyone in the public is invited to attend. Rain cancels this event.
The monthly womens meeting will be held this evening (9/10) at Crossroads Bible Church, located at 583 US HWY 45 in Norris City, at 7:00 p.m. Food will be available in the cafe from 6:00 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. Fellowship will follow after the meeting from 8:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. All women are invited to attend.
Saturday, September 11th
The Wynoose Community Chowder will be held today (9/11) starting at 4:00p.m. They will have BBQ, Chowder, pies, cakes, and more! Everyone is welcome!
ARF DAY AT RAY'S------Eat lunch at Ray's Dog House on the CDC parking lot on Saturday, September 11th from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. and support ARF. ARF's 10th anniversary Peace Sign t-shirts will be available as well as raffle tickets for a giant size bag chair, with the drawing to be held at the Fall Fun Fest!
Volunteers are needed and are welcome to participate in clean-up day in downtown Fairfield. Groups are to meet in front of Jemini Coffee House at 6:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 11th. The VPF encourage Volunteers to bring a broom, gloves, trashbag, and rake. Groups will be divided for blocks 100, 200, and 300 of Main Street. VPF invite Volunteers for donuts and coffee directly after clean-up at Jemini Coffee House.
The Dundas Ruritan Bulk Chowder will be held today (9/11) starting at 11:00 a.m. Baked goods will also be available. No glass containers please. Containers may be left early to fill and picked up later.
On Saturday, September 11, at the Mt. Vernon City Park at 4:00 p.m., there will be a tea party gathering. The gathering will include: honoring God and our country, honoring the flag, honoring our soldiers and veterans for their dedication in serving the world and the nation, remembering the innocent victims of the September 11 attacks, and finally, to register support of elected and appointed officials in our government who will live up to their pledge to uphold the US Constitution.Everyone is welcome to attend.
Sunday, September 12th
The annual Eckelberry Reunion will be held today (9/12) at 12:30 p.m. at the Charley Brown Park in Flora in the Lakeside Shelter. Everyone is welcome to bring food and share fun and fellowship.
The Fairfield Coin Club will meet on Sunday, September 12th at Frontier College in Fairfield. Doors open at 11:00 a.m. followed by a meeting and auction at 1:30 p.m. Coin Dealers will be present along with a raffle. Everyone is welcome.

The FCHS Horticulture Class has started taking orders for fall mums. The mums are in a 9 inch pot for $8 each with many different colors available. Contact Curt Robbins at 842-2649 to place your order.

The Fairfield WADI Senior Center annual breakfast fundraiser will be held today (9/18) from 7:30 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. ALL AGES ARE WELCOME TO ATTEND! The cost is a $5 donation for biscuits and gravy, sausage patties, eggs, OJ, Coffee, milk, and chocolate milk. Children 12 and under will eat for $3. The WADI Senior Center is located at 211 SE 2nd Street in Fairfield.
The 8th Annual Outrageous Dog Show, presented by Animals Requesting Friends, will be held today (9/18) from 4:30 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the main stage during the Fall Fun Fest!
Saturday, September 25th
The 1st annual Dravet Syndrome Foundation will host a Walkathon called "Step Towards a Cure for Epilepsy Team Bryant Weasel" on Saturday, September 25th, beginning at 9:00 a.m. with registration rain or shine at Burrells Woods in Carmi. A one mile walkathon will be sponsored by the family of Bryant and all proceeds will go directly to the Dravet Syndrome Foundation to find a cure. Six year old Bryant suffers from Dravet Syndrome. The walk, face painting, clowning, food and entertainment will be provided. Call 599-6916 for more information.
Saturday, October 2nd
The Compassion Pregnancy Center will hold a Walk for Life today (10/2) at Leo French Park in Fairfield. Registration will be held from 8:30 a.m. until 9:15 a.m. followed by the walk at 9:30 a.m. Prizes will be awarded to top team captains and the top walker. For more information, call 842-2525.

Sunday, October 10th
A reunion of former students, teachers, and staff of Mill Shoals Grade School is planned from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on October 10th at the Ruritan Building (former Methodist Church) in Mill Shoals. A formal program is not planned, but attendees are encouraged to bring photos, yearbooks, and other artifacts from their school years.

The 5th Annual Pumpkin Festival will be held today (10/23) in downtown Fairfield.
