Friday, November 20th

 

The Foodtastic Friday Menu at Fairfield's First United Methodist Church for Friday, November 20th, will include: baked potato bar and cake.  All FCHS students are welcome!

Road 2450 East, also known as Beulah Cafe Road, will be closed for culvert replacement starting south of railroad crossing beginning at 7:00 a.m. Friday morning, November 20th.

Valor III will be in concert this evening (11/20) at 7:00 p.m. at the Lighthouse Church located on North Main Street in Grayville.  Additionally, a Thanksgiving Dinner will be held.  Everyone is welcome.  Call 383-3471 for more information.

A rummage sale will be held today (11/20) and tomorrow (11/21) at 611 East Main Street in Fairfield, weather permitting.  They will have a craftsman lawn mower, chainsaw, Christmas Tree, Christmas Decorations, Coca-Cola Items, Raincoats, Weedeater, Washer, Shovels, Rakes, and more!

The Fairfield FFA is currently taking orders for their annual Fruit, Cheese, and Sausage Sale.  Oranges, Tangelos, Grapefruit, Apples, Pears, and Pineapples are available from any FFA member as well as smoked beef sticks, buffalo sausage, elk salami, cheese spreads, and cheese logs.  All orders must be made by November 30th and orders will arrive on December 15th!  Also, the FFA will be selling Poinsetta's at the Greenhouse starting in December.  To book your order, contact Curt Robbins at FCHS at 842-2649 or any Fairfield FFA Member.

The Rock Community Church of Boyleston is raffling a quilt during the Holiday Open House this Sunday in Fairfield.  Raffle tickets are available at Celebration Book Store.  All proceeds go to the church.

Saturday, November 21st

A Craft Show will be held today (11/21) and tomorrow (11/22) from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the Dundas Grade School in Dundas.  Many crafts will be available!  Everyone is welcome!  Call 754-3551 for more information.

An H1N1 Flu Vaccine Clinic will be held today (11/21) at New Beginnings Church, located on Route 15 east of Fairfield from 9:00 a.m. until noon.  The target groups for this clinic include the following: anyone ages 6 months to 24 years, staff of all ages associated with schools and child care centers, pregnant women with a doctors order to receive this specific vaccination, parents or caregivers of children under 6 months old, anyone from 25 to 64 years of age with certain chronic medical conditions or weakened immune systems, and health care workers and emergency personnel, regardless of age.  There is no fee, but please bring your medicare or medicaid card if you have one. 

The 15th Annual Beta Eta Holiday Craft Show will be held today (11/21) from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the Fairfield CP Church Life Center, located on outer west Delaware.  Concessions will be available!  Shop for quilts, knit hats, snowmen, candles, cross stitch, jewelry, wood crafts, and more!

The Hope Center in Albion, located at 23 West Cherry, will have registration forms available for families to fill out for Toys for Tots today (11/21) at their Feed the Family Program.  The program will start at 10:00 a.m. and registration forms must be completed by parent or custodial parent and all children ages birth to 15 are eligible to qualify for toys.  The toys will be distributed on Saturday, December 8th from 10:00 a.m. until noon.  The drop boxes in Albion for new toys include: IGA, Dollar General, Casey's, Lovins Pharmacy.

Jasper School PTO will have a pancake and sausage breakfast today (11/21) from 7:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. in the new cafeteria at Jasper School.  Tickets are $5 and kids ages 2 and under are free!  Tickets may be purchased from any PTO members, from the school, or at the door the day of the breakfast.  Everyone is welcome!  Call Jill at 842-3048 for more information.

The Mr. Erie PTO will hold a chili supper and an auction this evening (11/21) at 5:00 p.m. at the Mt. Erie Elementary School. Chili, chili dogs, and more will be available from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and the chili will be prepared over an open fire outdoors.  A live auction will begin at 6:00 p.m. with lots of donated items!  Child care will be provided!  Everyone is welcome to join in on a good time and have lots of fun!  All proceeds benefit student activities. 

Friends of the Fairfield Public Library will hold a bake sale and book sale today (11/21) from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the Fairfield Public Library.  Everyone is welcome.

The Wayne County Shrine Club will hold a breakfast this morning (11/21) at the Fairfield Masonic Lodge from 4:30 a.m. until 9:00 a.m.  The Shriners are starting the breakfast so early to accommodate all local deer hunters!  The breakfast will be by donation only and will include pancakes, sausage, biscuits, gravy, and drinks.  Everyone is welcome.

The Burnt Prairie Masonic Lodge #668 will hold their annual chili dinner today (11/21) from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the Burnt Prairie Masonic Lodge located in Burnt Prairie.  Chili, drinks, and dessert will be available and a freewill donation will be accepted.  Everyone is welcome.

The First Annual Bazaar and Bake Sale for the Outreach Sewing Center's new building will be held today (11/21) from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. inside the new completed building, located next to the Ellen Moore United Methodist Church on the corner of Delaware and 7th Street.  Everyone is welcome!

The Christmas Walk in Cisne will be held today (11/21) beginning at 9:00 a.m.  Look for the Red Bows and enjoy refreshments, door prizes, and special drawings from the following participants:  North Wayne Insurance, Samantha Baker with Tupperware at North Wayne Insurance, Hosselton Funeral Home,  SILCO, TrustBank, NorthWayne Ambulance, Hot Biscuit, Cisne Key Market, and Trilleys. 

A benefit for Jason Bishop will be held today (11/21) from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, located on South 4th Street in Albion.  Chili, porkburgers, hot dogs, desserts, and drinks will be available during the event by donation only!  Bulk Sales of Chili will be available, but please bring your own container.  The cost will be $12 per gallon.  A silent auction will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. with fabulous items!  Everyone is invited to attend!  Jason needs surgery and does not have insurance to cover the procedure.  A fund has been established at Citizens National Bank in Albion called the Jason Bishop Fund.  All donations are appreciated.

The Walnut Grove Church in Parkersburg will host a benefit breakfast today (11/21) from 6:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.  The menu will consist of biscuits and sausage gravy, pancakes, fresh farm eggs cooked to order, and drinks.  The cost is by donation only and all proceeds will help support local charities.  Everyone is welcome.

The AFTERPROM 2010 will hold a bake sale today (11/22) during the Fairfield Retail Merchants Holiday Open House.  The bakesale will be held inside the Fairfield Chamber Office from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.  All proceeds will be used for AFTERPROM.

A Free Thanksgiving Dinner will be held today (11/22) at Chappy's Bar in Grayville beginning at 5:00 p.m.  Everyone is welcome.

Tuesday, November 24th

A Thanksgiving Community Service will be held this evening (11/24) at the New Hope General Baptist Church at 7:00 p.m.  Everyone is invited to attend!  Call Pastor Mark Odle at 842-3604 for more information.

The Southeastern Illinois Center for Pastoral Counseling will hold a FREE Grief Support Group Meeting this evening (11/24) from 7:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at the First Christian Church, located at 8th and Market Streets in Mt. Carmel.  This meeting is for anyone who has experienced  a loss.  The leader is Brenda Knuckles, call 262-5921 for more information.

The Edwards County FCCLA Chapter will be taking a Thanksgiving offering today (11/24) for Ben Jostes.  Ben was hurt in an accident in October and will be unable to work for many months.  He lives in O'Fallon, IL with his wife and son.  He is an ECHS graduate and his family lives in this area.  The FCCLA members and alumni will be on the square collecting and going door to door on in Albion to help this family! Happy Thanksgiving from the staff @ WFIW!

A Thanksgiving Dinner will be held today (11/26) from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Shiloh Community Church in Geff, north of the Geff Park.  This dinner is open to all residents, free of charge.  Come dressed as you are, or delivery is available!  Call 842-9228 or 516-1888 for delivery. 

The First Baptist Church of Albion will be serving a FREE traditional Thanksgiving Day Dinner from 11:00 a.m. until noon.  Meals maybe be eaten at the church at 4th and Cherry Street in Albion, or meals will be delivered upon request.  If you would like a meal delivered, call 445-2610.  If no answer, please leave a message.  Reservations for who is eating at the church are appreciated, but not necessary.

Saturday, November 28th

Saturday, November 28th and Sunday, November 29th will be "Carnaby for Critters" Weekend at Carnaby Square in Fairfield!  You will be entered to win a $250 Carnaby Square Shopping Spree for every $20 you donate to Animals Requesting Friends!  Plus...sign up for ARF Door Prizes and shop for special "critter weekend" discounts!

A benefit will be held today (11/28) for Bobby and Robert Staley, of Clay City, father and son, both who have cancer.  The benefit will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.  at the Oddfellows Hall in Clay City.  Soup and Dessert will be served and many raffles will take place.  All money will go to the family.  If you would like to donate, please call Marilyn White at 673-2086.  Everyone is welcome to attend the benefit.

The Grayville Chamber of Commerce Lighted Christmas Parade will be held today (11/28) at 6:00 p.m.  The Grayville Merchants will hold open house from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.  The Jr. Womens Club will be serving chili and the Chamber will serve sandwiches.  Parade Prizes will be awarded for non-motorized and floats, and a golf cart traveling trophy.

The West Salem area businesses will hold their annual "Holiday Tour" today (11/28) from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.  Pick up a holiday tour card at your first stop, visit each location, and have your card stamped to be eligible for the grand prize basket containing items and gift certificates from each location!  Vendors will also be set up on the square!  Everyone is invited to visit West Salem today!

Sunday, November 29th

All in the Family will be appearing at the Clay City Community Southern Baptist Church today (11/29) at 6:00 p.m.  Everyone is welcome!

Saturday, December 5th

Come meet and greet Sheriff Jim Hinkle!  Enjoy dinner in the Floral Hall at the Wayne County Fairgrounds in Fairfield December 5th, 4-9 p.m.  Catering by Max Weaver's Big Boy BBQ.  Dinner includes your choice of chicken, barbecue ribs or pulled pork, baked potato, slaw, tea and lemonade.  Just $10 per person and children under 10 years old eat free!  Tickets will be available at the door.  For advance tickets call 842-9257.  Sponsored by Citizens to Re-Elect Jim Hinkle Sheriff.

The Kiwanis Christmas Parade will be held tonight (12/5) at 5:00 p.m.  The theme for this year's parade is "The Perfect Christmas Card."

The Annual Clothes and More Give-A-Way will be held today (12/5) from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. at the Fairfield CP Church.  This is FREE to the public---good used clothes, toys, household items, and more!  This event is sponsored by the Salvation Seekers.  Everyone is welcome.

A Pool Tournament in memory of Aaron Long will be held today (12/5) beginning at 4:00 p.m. at the Fairfield American Legion.  The cost to enter the tournament will be $5.  The public is encouraged to attend, but you must be 21 to enter!  This is a memory celebration for Aaron, who lost his life in a hunting accident.  Aaron's 21st birthday is December 5th, 2010, and he had a great love for playing pool!  Food, music, and more will be available!

Sunday, December 6th

The FCHS Music Department will have a Christmas Dinner Theatre today (11/6) at Fairfield Community High School.  The dinner will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 12:45 a.m. and will feature potato soup, chili, vegetable soup, salad, breadsticks, and dessert.  The concert will follow beginning at 1:00 p.m.  There will be performances by the FCHS Band, Show Choir, and Chorus.  Admission to the Christmas Dinner Theatre dinner and concert will be by donation only.

Friday, December 10th

The Foodtastic Friday Menu at Fairfield's First United Methodist Church for Friday, December 11th, will include: Spaghetti, hot rolls, and cake.  All FCHS students are welcome!

Saturday, December 12th

The Wayne City FFA Alumni will hold an All-You-Can-Eat Fish Fry this evening (12/12) from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in the Wayne City High School Multi-Purpose Room.  Fish, Shrimp, and Chicken will be available by donation only!  All proceeds will go towards Alumni activities, scholarships, and more!


Sunday, December 20th

Everyone is welcome to join in on the celebration of the Greatest Gift Ever Given!  Cookies and punch will be served at 6:00 p.m. this evening (12/20) wtih a presentation at 7:00 p.m. featuring The Faith Tabernacle Chorale, Stand Youth Ministries Drama Team, and a children's nativity and choir, located at 98 Princewood Drive in Flora.  There is no charge and everyone is welcome.  Call 662-2814.

The Fairfield Rotary Club/ Wayne County Farm Bureau sponsored third travelogue of the season will be shown tonight (1/14) at 7:15 p.m. at Fairfield's First Baptist Church.  Tonight's travelogue is "America, Sea to Shining Sea," narrated live by Stan Walsh.  Admission is by season ticket only.

 

Monday, January 18th

The Mt. Erie Ruritan Club will hold its annual Farm Machinery Consignment Sale on January 18th, 2010 starting at 9:00 a.m. at the Mt. Erie Ruritan Building and grounds in Mt. Erie.  Consigned sale items include: tractors, field equipment, trucks, ATV's, trailers, combines and combine heads, mowers, and hay equipment, livestock equipment, and much more!  To consign, call Steve Bass at 838-8398, Jerald Hubble at 445-2344, or Victor Frohning at 854-2633  Items to be listed on the sale bill must be consigned by December 21st, 2009.  Proceeds from the sale will be used for community events!

The Fairfield Rotary Club/ Wayne County Farm Bureau sponsored  fifth travelogue of the season will be shown tonight (3/25) at 7:15 p.m. at Fairfield's First Baptist Church.  Tonight's travelogue is "Iran Then and Now," narrated live by Buddy Hatton.  Admission is by season ticket only.

Thursday, April 22nd
