Friday, June 18th

The Amy Center in Mt. Vernon is holding their 3rd Annual Golf Outing at Greenview Golf Course in Centralia today (6/18).  Registration will take place from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., followed by lunch from 11:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and tee off begins at 11:30 a.m.  by a shotgun start!  The cost is $80 per golfer and this fee includes lunch, 18 holes, cart, and a snack at the 19th hole.  All proceeds help the Amy Center help the children.  The rain date is scheduled for June 25th.  Call 244-2100 for more information.

The Springerton Community Church will hold a revival today (6/18) and tomorrow (6/19) at 7:00 p.m. and on June 20th at 6:00 p.m.  Everyone is welcome to attend.  The evangelist will be Kenny Williamson.

The Oak Street Baptist Church in Flora is holding a revival June 18th through June 20th.  Services will be held at 7:00 p.m. on June 18th and 19th.  On June 20th, they will have a 10:30 a.m. service and a 6:00 p.m. service.  The church is located at 633 East 3rd Street in Flora.  Call 662-7216 for additional information.

Shoe Creek Pharmacy in Wayne City is closed today and tomorrow, 6/18 and 6/19.

The Wayne County Golf Course will host a men's and women's mixed night scramble on Saturday, June 26th.  The event will begin with late registration at 7:00 p.m. followed by dinner at 7:30 p.m.  Play will start at sundown, with glo-sticks and golfballs provided by the club.  The scramble is open to the public at the cost of $15 per person.  Meat will be provided by WCGC; participants are asked to bring a covered dish.  Registration may be made at the course or by calling the pro-shop at 847-7222.

Saturday, June 19th

Barnard Auctioneers will conduct a Benefit Auction to help a family with medical expenses this Saturday, June 19th beginning at 9:00 AM at the Jonathan Mast farm just North and West of the Belle Rive exit off I-64 in Jefferson County. Auction offers 2 to 3 auction rings with quilts, potted flowers, new tools, assorted farm equipment, as well as horses, tack & poultry. Auctioneers Mark, Denise, & Barkley Barnard encourage you to attend this Saturday's benefit auction event starting at 9:00 AM.

The Keenes Kruisers Relay for Life team will hold a Father's Day Bake Sale today (5/19) at the Wayne City Community Building starting at 8:00 a.m. until noon.  The cost is by donation only. For special orders or orders in advance, call 895-4889 or 895-2740.  All proceeds go to Relay for Life.

The Fairfield Golf Course will be closed from noon until 6:00 p.m. (6/19) in order for the Shriners Tourney to be held.

The Edwards County High School Cheerleaders will have a porkburger and porkchop sandwich sale today (6/19) at the Pagoda on the square in Albion.  Serving will begin at 9:30 a.m. 

The Hope Center will have Feed The Family Day today (6/19) at the Hope Center in Albion, located at 23 West Cherry.  Over 500 pairs of new sandals and flip flops will  be given away freely along with food and clothing.  The JAM Youth Group from Elm River CP Church in Mt. Sunday, June 20th

It's VBS at First Baptist Church in Fairfield this week!  Children ages 5 to sixth grade are admitted nightly for FREE from 6:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. starting this evening (6/20) through Thursday, June 24th.  Adults will also have the opportunity to participate in a bible study.  This week of fun, food, and exciting learning opportunities is open to everyone.  On Friday, June 25th, First Baptist Church will host VBS Family Night.  Families are encouraged to attend with their children, to a program featuring songs and lessons learned at their week of VBS, followed by a Family Cookout!  For additional information, call 842-3764.

A benefit lunch for the Jim Hinkle Family will be held today (6/20) from 11:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the Wayne County Fairgrounds Floral Hall Building.  The cost is by donation only.  The menu will feature BBQ Sandwiches, creekbank potatoes, baked beans, pasta salad, dessert, and drinks.  Carry-outs will be available.  The Hinkle's lost their home to a fire.

The Wayne County Golf Course needs 15 volunteers each evening on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday (June 22-24th) to help spread Bermuda Grass Springs on holes 5,6, 7, and 8.  Work will begin at 5:00 p.m. each evening and end by 8:00 p.m.  Both men and women are welcome to assist in this effort.  Please call Doug at 847-7222 to schedule your evening to help!  There are also many other volunteer project list work to be completed.

Monday, June 21st

The Blooming Grove Baptist Church in McLeansboro will hold their 160th anniversary celebration the week of June 21-June 27th.  They will have revival services with former pastors each evening at 7 p.m. nightly and will conclude with Homecoming Services on Sunday, June 27th beginning at 9:30 a.m. with the Phelps Brothers in the afternoon.  Everyone is welcome.

All students in grades second and third are invited to participate in a Summer Cooking School taking place at the Wayne County Extension Office in Fairfield every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday in July and August.  Participants will be cooking with Laura Zurliene!  Learn the proper way to make your own food with nutrition teacher Laura!  The workshop runs from 9:00 a.m. until noon on the days listed.  A nutritious snack will be served at each workshop.  There is no cost to attend.  Students must register for cooking school as soon as possible by calling 842-3702.  Students must provide their own transportation to and from the class each day.   Space is limited.  Call today.

The Albion/Browns American Legion Baseball Team will be selling porkburgers and drinks today (6/21) on the Albion IGA Parking Lot starting at 11:00 a.m.  All proceeds support the team.

The Mulebackers will meet this evening (6/21) at 6:30 p.m. at the old Save-A-Lot Building.  They will be getting items ready for the upcoming auction that will be held on June 26th.

Thursday, June 24th

Socialize and meet new people at the Women's Coffee Club at the Kon-Tiki in Fairfield every Thursday from 9:30-10:30 a.m.  Coffee, donuts and Danish will be provided.  Courtesy of Senior Life Solutions at Fairfield Memorial Hospital.

The Fairfield City Band will perform tonight (6/24) on the Courthouse Lawn in Fairfield at 7:00 p.m.  The band is directed by Ardis Barbre and is made up of local muscians.  There will be live concerts every Thursday evening in June.


Saturday, June 26th

A Multi-County "Right to Carry" Town Hall Meeting will be held this evening (6/26) at the CP Church located in Fairfield from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.  Five County Sheriffs will speak as well as a representative from the IL Rifle Association, and Valinda Rowe of the website www.illinoiscarry.com.  This is for anyone to attend and especially for people with questions and concerns.  For more information, call 673-2919.

The FCHS MULEBACKERS will hold an auction today (6/26) on the corner of East Main and 4th Street, across from AUTOMAX in Fairfield.  This auction will begin at 10:00 a.m. and go until sold out!  This money is to raise money for ALL of the extracurricular activities at FCHS.  Concessions will be sold at the auction by the Mulebackers.  The Mulebackers will also be drawing for 2 winners to win a 1/2 of a hog processed.  To get your ticket, contact any Mulebacker or call 847-2081.

The Women's Missionary Society from the First General Baptist Church, is holding a pork chop dinner catered by Max Weaver, this evening (6/26) from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the First General Baptist Church.  All proceeds will go toward Mission Projects.  The cost is by donation only.  Everyone is welcome.  The church is located at 1601 W. Main in Fairfield.

Wayne County Ministries are coming together to host "Hope Fest in the Park" at Geff Community Park on June 26th!  The event will begin with activities for children and youth from grades K thru 8th grades.  These activities include games, crafts, Bible lessons, and a puppet show for the younger children.  Activities for the youth will involve fun team building games and teaching.  Around 6:00 p.m., there will be a free hot dog dinner for children, parents, and the public.  At 6:45 p.m., the Fusion Youth Group band will perform.  This event is for youth from JR. High thru early college age students.  Children younger than Jr. High should be accompanied by a parent or guardian.  For more attention, call 842-3426 or 842-2129.

Sunday, June 27th

The Albion Senior Center will have a Sunday Buffet today (6/27) with serving beginning at 11:00 a.m.  There will be roast pork, chicken and noodles with all of the trimmings, drinks, and homemade dessert.  The cost is an $8 donation.  Everyone is welcome. 

Saturday, July 3rd

The Volunteer Fireman's Association of West Salem is sponsoring a fireworks display that will be held this evening (7/3) at dusk at Centennial Park in West Salem.  In addition to fireworks, many other events will take place during the day.  The schedule is as follows:  6-9 a.m. Breakfast at the West Salem Ruritan sponsored by the West Salem Masonic Lodge, Village Wide Yard Sales starting at 7:00 a.m., lunch served at the West Salem Ruritan Club on the square starting at 11:00 a.m., A parade "celebrating our hometown" at 5:00 p.m., and fireworks at dusk.  A huge raffle will be held during the event with 1st prize being 50% of the money, 2nd and 3rd place will win 4 Holiday World Tickets, 4th place taking $100, and last place $50. Sunday's events (7/4) will include community worship on the square at 10:00 a.m., registration at 11:30 a.m. for a car/bike/ tractor show, a Country Rhodes Buffet at the firehouse beginning at noon featuring fish, shrimp, chicken, potato salad, slaw, applesauce, baked beans, hushpuppies, desserts, and drinks, 2:00 p.m. Registration closes for the car/bike/ tractor show, followed by winners announced by 4:30 p.m.  Everyone is welcome to take part in all FREEDOM CELEBRATION ACTIVITIES in West Salem, Illinois!

Monday, July 12th


Required School and Sports Physicals will be performed at the Edwards County K-12 Building from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.  on Tuesday, July 20th by Dr. Isreal.  Each student in the Edwards County School District entering school for the first time, Kindergarten, 6th, and 9th grade is required to have a physical BEFORE fall registration.  Appointments must be made by calling 445-2325 ext. 167.  Physicals are $40 each.  Medicaid cards will not be accepted at this physical, but will be accepted at all SIPCA offices.

Saturday, July 17th

Friends of the EC Schools will be hosting a live and silent auction on Saturday, July 17, 2010.  Funds raised at the event will support music, scholastic, and sports programs at the Albion Grade School, West Salem Grade School, and Edwards County High School for the 2010-2011 school year.  The event will be held in the Edwards County High School Gymnasium.  A barbecue dinner will be served starting at 4:00 pm.  Free-will donations will be accepted.  The silent auction will begin at 4:00 p.m. and conclude at 6:30 p.m.  The live auction begins at 6:45 p.m.   If you would like to donate an item for the auction, contact Ron Burklow at 618-599-5932.  Cash donations are being accepted at Citizens National Bank of Albion, Attn:  Kevin Smerdon, PO Box 100, Albion, IL  62806.  For a complete list of auction items, go to www.friends-of-the-ec-schools.com

The Hope Center will have a FREE First Aid Training Session today (7/21) at the Hope Center in Albion.  The session begins at 1:00 p.m. but you must register for the session by calling 445-2065 ASAP.

Saturday, August 7th

The 2010 Wayne County 4-H Foundation Pork Chop Dinner will be held today (8/7) from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Geff Ruritan Building.  The meal will feature pork chops, baked beans, cole slaw, homemade rolls, dessert, and drinks.  Ticket prices are $8 for adults, $4 for youth ages 5 to 12, and free for ages 5 and under.  Everyone is welcome.
