81-year-old James C. Sobecki of Washington, Indiana died Saturday, Sept. 28. An educator, he previously served as superintendent of schools in McLeanboro, Washington, Indiana, Sesser, Ill., and Green County, Indiana. A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, he received his PhD from the University of Michigan. After retirement, he served as president of the Washington, Indiana Housing Authority.
Survivors include his wife, Arlene Sobecki; a brother, Ron Sobecki of New York; a sister, Margaret Workoff of New York; children, Duane Sobecki of Fishers, Ind., Dean Sobecki of Washington, Ind., Dawn Fritschle and Daniel Sobecki, both of Washington, Ind. and six grandchildren.
A funeral mass for James C. Sobecki will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 3 at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church in Washington, Ind.
Visitation will be from 4 – 8:30 Wednesday, Oct. 2 at the church.
Memorials may be made to the Piorist School in Martin, KY or the ROTC Program at Washington, Ind. High School and will be accepted at the Ed Lee Mortuary in Washington, Indiana. The Harre Funeral Home of McLeansboro provided the information for Mr. Sobecki’s obituary.
