95-year-old Jacksonville, FL resident and White County native, John Hayward Edmondson, died Tuesday, June 11 in Florida. He was a Chief Petty Officer during World War II and an original “Plank Owner” on the U.S.S. Yosemite AD19. After over 40 years of retail store management he retired to Florida. He was active in the Masons, VFW, American Legion, Merchant Associations and Chambers of Commerce.
Surviving are a son, John H. Edmondson Jr. of Oro Valley, AZ; one daughter, Shireen E. Zsomboran of Atlantic Beach, FL; four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild on the way.
A graveside funeral service for John Hayward Edmondson will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 20 at Maple Ridge Cemetery in Carmi. Military burial rites will be provided by the American Legion and VFW of Carmi. A Celebration of Life will be held in Jacksonville, FL at a later date.
