75-year-old Rt. 1 McLeansboro resident, John W. (Punkin) Johnson died at 11:34 a.m. Friday, June 28 at Good Samaritan Regional Health Care Center in Mt. Vernon, IL. He was a retired truck driver; taught small arms instruction to youth through the O’Fallon Police Department and was a small arms instructor at Scott Air Force Base. He also was a senior distributor for Shaklee Corp.; was an airplane pilot and coached baseball.
Survivors include his wife, Judith E. Johnson of McLeansboro; three sons, David Johnson of Highland, Il, John R. Johnson of Mt. Vernon, IL and George R. Johnson of Kearney, MO; a daughter, Carolyn Sue Plog of Greenville, IL; special family members, Scott, Lori and Harlie Peterson and Paul Warhoover; 9 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren and one on the way and several nieces and nephews.
Services for John W. (Punkin) Johnson will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 2 at the Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro with burial in Old Hickory Hill Cemetery in Broughton.
Visitation will be from 5 – 8 Monday evening, July 1 at the Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro.
Memorials may be made to the Old Hickory Hill Cemetery fund and will be accepted at the Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro.
