98-year-old former McLeansboro resident, Morris Dale Sanders, died Wednesday, November 13 at Paris Regional Medical Center in Paris, TX. He served in the 95th Infantry Division, Patton’s Third Army in the European Theater from June 1942 to October 1945 during WW II. He was a 71-year member of the Masonic Lodge, member of the American Legion Post #106 and VFW Post #3851 Carmi. He was a school board member of the McLeansboro ISD for six years, a 4-H leader for several years and member of the First Presbyterian Church in McLeansboro, serving as Deacon and Elder. He retired from Marathon Oil in 1980 after 39 years.
Surviving are his wife of 72 years, Anne James Sanders; one son, James Dale Sanders; one daughter, Jane Anne Sanders Wikoff; two granddaughters and three great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Morris Dale Sanders will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 17 at the Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro. Burial will be in the IOOF Cemetery at McLeansboro, with graveside military rites by the American Legion Post #106 and Military Honors Team from Marion, IL.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. Sunday, November 17 until the time of service at the Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro.
Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church in McLeansboro.
