Herbert H. Lakes

80-year-old Quincy, IN resident, Herbert H. Lakes died at 4:45 Sunday afternoon, July 18 at St. Francis Beech Grove in Indianapolis, IN. He had worked in the maintenance department of SUMCO, Inc. in Indianapolis and had also been a carpenter and a feed store worker.

Survivors include his wife, Goldie Smith Lakes of Mooresville, IN; two sons, Gene Lakes of Stanton, KY and Sandy Lakes of Mooresville, IN; three daughters, Bonnie McKinney of McKee, KY, Brenda Lakes of Nashville, IN and Julie Smith of Trafalgar, IN; three brothers, Lennie McKee and Otis Isaacs of McKee, KY; five sisters, Isabel "Ibbie" Isaacs, Eulah Russell, Annie McQueen and Sinnie Hobbs, all of McKee, KY and Mamie Hobbs of Connersville, IN; 16 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

Services for Herbert H. Lakes will be 2 p.m. Thursday, July 22 at Nale's Funeral Home in Fairfield with burial in Maple Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the time of service Thursday, July 22 at Nale's Funeral Home in Fairfield.

 

Shirley M. Todd

72-year-old Geff Resident, Shirley M. Todd, died on July 19, 2010 in Effingham, Illinois.

Survivors include: her children, Cindy Hickerson of Knoxville, TN, Paula Akin of Algonquin, IL, and Carla Johnson of Glen Carbon, IL; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services for Shirley M. Todd will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 22, 2010 at Quernheim Funeral Home in Waterloo, IL with burial in the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 and from 8:00 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday, July 22, 2010 at the Quernheim Funeral Home in Waterloo.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society and will be accepted at the Quernheim Funeral Home.

 

Jennifer Pope

32-year-old Jennifer Pope died at 6:28 p.m. on Sunday, July 18, 2010, at Covenant Medical Center in Urbana.

Survivors include: her husband, Jarrod Pope of Burnt Prairie; two sons, Cade and Blake Young of Salt Lake City, UT; her parents, Tim and Vickie Lewis of Burnt Prairie; two brothers, Timmy Lewis and Billy Lewis, both of Burnt Prairie; one niece, two nephews, and several aunts and uncles.

Funeral Services for Jennifer Pope will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 22, 2010 at Johnson & Vaughan Funeral Home with burial in the Burnt Prairie Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at Johnson & Vaughan Funeral Home in Fairfield.

 

Anna Hon

89-year-old Rt. 1 Springerton resident Anna L. Hon died Saturday, July 17 at Hamilton Memorial Hospital. She had been a farmer and homemaker.

Survivors include a sister, Betty McNew of McLeansboro along with many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services for Anna L. Hon will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 21 at the Old Springer Cemetery near McLeansboro.

Visitation will be from 6 - 8 Tuesday evening, July 20 at the Gholson Funeral Home n McLeansboro.

 

Mike Alcorn

62-year-old Grayville native, Mike Alcorn, died Thursday, July 15, at Charlier Hospice in Evansville, IN. He was a graduate of Grayville High School and spent his summers working for the Old House Restaurant and the A & G concession stand at the Grayville Pool during the 1960's. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Kentucky and interned at Condict and Fosse in Evansville. He completed his Master of Science in Architecture from the University of Illinois, and also garnered a Master of Fine Arts degree from the Art Institute of Chicago. He was an integral member of the School of Architecture in the University of Nevada Las Vegas' College of Fine Arts since 1993.

Surviving are one brother, Tim of Grayville; one niece Tami Farrill of Evansville, IN; one great-nephew; and two aunts, Becky Groff of Breese, IL and Rose Maruyama of Highlands Ranch, CO.

Graveside services for Mike Alcorn will be held Saturday, August 14, at 4:30 p.m. at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Grayville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Grayville Library Boosters at PO Box 152, Grayville, 62844 or UNLV, School of Architecture at PO Box 454018, Las Vegas, NV 89154-4018.

Cook Funeral Chapel in Grayville is in charge of the arrangements.

 

Marvin Wright

67-year-old Mill Shoals resident, Marvin Wright, died at 8:35 a.m. Friday, July 16, at Cisne Healthcare Center in Cisne, IL. He owned a wrecker service in Mill Shoals.

Surviving are two sons, Marvin Eugene Wright and Luther Wright both of Mill Shoals; four grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Elizabeth Grahm of Albany, KY and Nancy Louise Kempton of Burnt Prairie; and one brother, Jessie Wright of Fairfield.

Funeral services for Marvin Wright will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 19, at the Johnson & Vaughn Funeral Home in Fairfield. Burial will be in Shrewsbury Cemetery at Mill Shoals.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, July 18, at the Johnson & Vaughn Funeral Home in Fairfield.

 

George Rubenacker

92-year-old former Piopolis resident, George Rubenacker of Ormond Beach, FL died Wednesday, February 17. He retired from the U.S. Marine Corps having served during WW II and the Korean War. He worked and retired from the U.S. Department of the Navy as a technical writer and received the 40 year service award from the Navy Department. He received his BS in Accounting from George Washington University and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include sons, Robert C. Kiefer of Ormond Beach, FL and Mark Rubenacker of Pensacola Beach, FL; a daughter, Patricia Craig of Fort Myers, FL; and three grandsons.

A memorial funeral service and funeral mass for George Rubenacker will be 10 a.m. Saturday, July 17 at St. Clements Catholic Church in McLeansboro with burial in St. Clements Cemetery with military honors provided by the American Legion Post 106.

Those attending the service should go directly to the church. The Gholson Funeral Home of McLeansboro is in charge of all the arrangements.

 

Larry D. England

68-year-old Flora resident, Larry D. England died at 2:30 a.m. Thursday, July 15 at his home in Flora. He was a sexton for Elmwood Cemetery in Flora for 33 years.

Surviving are his wife Billie; his father, Eugene England of Flora; children, Keith England, Greg Beard and Scott Beard all of Flora and John England of Ozark, MO; one brother, Terry England of Kalkaska, MI; and eight grandchildren.

Funeral services for Larry D. England will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 18, at the Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery at Flora.

Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Saturday, July 17, at the Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora, with Masonic Rites at 6 p.m.

Memorials may be made to Shriner's Hospitals.

 

Marjorie Hannel

88-year-old former McLeansboro resident, Marjorie Hannel of Franklin, NC died at 5:05 p.m. Monday, July 12 at Memorial Campus Hospital in Ashville, NC.

Survivors include a daughter, Brenda Burch of Franklin, NC; brothers, Rev. Bill Duncan of Carmi and Bob Duncan of Kentucky; daughters, Mona Gaines and Janice Burnett of McLeansboro; 2 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Services for Marjorie Hannel will be 2 p.m. Saturday, July 17 at the First General Baptist Church in McLeansboro with burial in the IOOF Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. Saturday until the time of service at the church.

The Gholson Funeral Home of McLeansboro is in charge of all the arrangements.

 

Edith B. Smith

83-year-old McLeansboro resident, Edith B. Smith, died at 12:55 a.m. Wednesday, July 14, at Carbondale Memorial Hospital in Carbondale, IL. She had worked as a seamstress at Elder Manufacturing for 20 years, and was a volunteer at the North Fork Food Pantry in Broughton.

Surviving are her husband, Carl L. Smith of McLeansboro; one son, Eddie Barker of Galatia, IL; one daughter, Ellen Rubenacker of Piopolis, IL; two step-sons, Terry Smith of Eldorado, IL and Tim Smith of McLeansboro; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Edith B. Smith will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 15, at the Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro. Burial will be in Barker Cemetery at Broughton.

Visitation will be from noon Thursday, July 15, until the time of service at the Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
