Edwin O. Doty
Edwin O. Doty, 77, of Grayville, Illinois, died Thursday, July 1, 2010, at the Heart Hospital at Deaconess Gateway in Newburgh, Indiana. He was a retired chemical engineer, Korean War Army veteran, and member of the VFW and American Legion.
Survivors include his wife, Len B. Thompson of Grayville; sister Lynn Rheker and her husband Joe of Warren; numerous nieces and nephews; and five dogs, Fancy, Fizzpot, Tut Tut, Yogi and Cassie.
Edwin’s remains were cremated and there will be no visitation or funeral services. The Cook Funeral Chapel in Grayville is in charge of arrangements.
Charles Wendell Arnold
84-year-old Parkersburg resident, Charles W. Arnold, died Wednesday, June 30, at Burgin Manor in Olney. He was retired from the U.S. Army after 26 years of service. He served in WW II, the Korean War, and Vietnam. Charles received a Bronze Star Medal. He also worked as a truck driver for 12 years, and was a lifetime member of the Olney VFW, Olney American Legion Post and the Eagles Lodge of Olney.
Surviving are his wife Frances E. Arnold of Parkersburg and a good friend, Jim Shingelton of Hubert, NC; two sisters-in-law, Norma Thomas and Pauline Scranton both of Bridgeport, IL; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service for Charles Wendell Arnold will be held at a later date with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery at Parkersburg. Military rites will be accorded Mr. Arnold at that time.
Cunningham Funeral Home in Bridgeport, IL is in charge of the arrangements.
Robert "Bob" Lamont
81-year-old Carmi resident, Robert "Bob" Lamont died at 11:25 p.m. Wednesday, June 30 at the Phoenix Rehab & Nursing Home in Carmi. A veteran of the Korean War, he retired from the parks department of the City of Carmi after 30 years service.
Survivors include his companion, Marilou Crawford of Carmi; a brother and sister-in-law, Jack M. and Connie Lamont of Carmi; a niece and five nephews.
Services for Robert "Bob" Lamont will be 2 p.m. Saturday, July 3 at the Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi with burial in Centerville Cemetery near Carmi with military honors by the Carmi VFW and American Legion Posts.
Visitation will be from 5 - 8 Friday evening, July 2 at the Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi.
Patty Tadlock
51-year-old Fairfield resident, Patty Tadlock died at 12:26 Thursday morning, July 1 at St. Mary's Hospital in Evansville. She was a social worker.
Survivors include: her mother, June Ayers of Fairfield; one brother, Brad Tadlock of Hilton Head, South Carolina; and one sister, Diane Musgrave of Sumner, Illinois.
A celebration of life for Patty Tadlock will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 3rd at Johnson & Vaughan Funeral Home in Fairfield. Her body has been cremated and burial will take place at a later date.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday, July 3rd at Johnson & Vaughan Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the Fairfield Public Library or Relay for Life.
Linda Lowe
57-year-old Albion resident, Linda Lowe died at 3:15 p.m. Tuesday, June 29 at Decatur Memorial Hospital in Decatur, IL. She had been an Edwards County School Teacher.
Survivors include three sisters, Marilyn Gentle of Maroa, IL, Margaret Ettling of Jackson, MO and Sharon Reynolds of Decatur, IL.
Services for Linda Lowe will be 11 a.m. Friday, July 2 at Nale's Funeral Home in Albion with burial in Witt Cemetery in Witt, IL.
Visitation will be one hour before the time of service Friday at Nale's Funeral Home in Albion.
Marion J. Drew
79-year-old Rt. 1 McLeansboro resident, Marion J. Drew died at 8 a.m. Wednesday, June 30 at Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro. He was a retired Master Sergeant with the U.S. Air Force having served 20 years duty during the Korean and Vietnam wars. After retirement, he drove a school bus for Hamilton County Schools for 20 years and also worked as a security guard at the General Tire Plant in Mount Vernon, IL.
Survivors include his wife, Betty; a son, Richard of McLeansboro; a daughter, Janet Flannigan of McLeansboro and five grandchildren, Sean Paul Flannigan, Samantha Inboden, David Drew, and Pauline Drew of McLeansboro and Marlene Cunico of Collinsville.
Graveside services for Marion J. Drew will be 2 p.m. Sunday, July 4 at the Blooming Grove Cemetery near McLeansboro with military honors provided by the American Legion Post 106 of McLeansboro..
Visitation will be 1 p.m. Sunday until the time of service at the Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro.
H. Fern Thompson
93-year-old Owensboro, KY resident, formerly of Flora, H. Fern Thompson, died at 4:20 a.m. Wednesday, June 30, at Carmel Home in Owensboro, KY.
Surviving are a daughter, Donna Stuerzenberger of Owensboro, KY; eight grandchildren, one step-grandchild, 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services for H. Fern Thompson will be at 10:15 a.m. Saturday, July 3, at Saint Stephen's Catholic Church in Flora. Burial will be in Saint Stephen's Cemetery at Flora.
Visitation will be from 9 til 10 a.m. Saturday, July 3, at the Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora.
Memorials may be made to Saint Stephen's Cemetery Fund or Carmel Home.
Billy VanMatre
75-year-old rural Rinard resident Billy Harmon VanMatre died at 12:18 p.m. Tuesday, June 29 at the Salem Township Hospital in Salem, IL. He operated a sanitation company in the Olney area with his family for several years, worked at the Lynn Sawmill and was also employed in the trucking business. He had also worked for the City of Olney and several area businesses. A musician, he had also operated the Xenia Opera on Friday nights for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth "Beth" VanMatre; 5 daughters, Joyce Denocour of Flora, Janice VanMatre of Flora, Betty Williams of West Salem, Deborah Fickas of Cisne and Charlotte Prieur of Van Buren, AK; three sons, David VanMatre of Noble, Oakie VanMatre of Olney and Carl VanMatre of Mackey, IN; a sister and three brothers also survive along with 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Services for Billy Harmon VanMatre will be 10 a.m. Saturday, July 3 at the Clay City Church of God on U.S. Rt. 50.
Visitation will be from 6 - 8 Friday evening, July 2 at the Clay City Church of God.
Memorials may be made to the family and will be accepted at the Ingram Funeral Home in Albion, which is in charge of all the arrangements.
Robert Allan Miller
80-year-old Robert Allan Miller died Monday morning, June 28, 2010, in the Olney, IL Hospital after a battle with cancer. Robert was a life member of the Masons, American Legion, and the NRA.
Survivors include: a daughter, Anna Grabowski; two sons, Allan Miller, and Brian Scott; and the mother of his children, Delores Bordowitz Miller.
Funeral Services for Robert Allan Miller will be held on Friday, July 2, 2010 at 9:30 a.m. at Kuiper Funeral Home in Highland, Indiana with the Griffith Masonic Lodge #735 officiating. Interment will be held at Memory Lane Park in Schereville, Indiana.
Friends are invited to meet with the family on Thursday, July 1, 2010 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Kuiper Funeral Home in Highland, Indiana.
Mary Kathryn Basinger
79-year-old Enfield Resident, Mary Kathryn Basinger, died Monday, June 28, 2010 at Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro. She was a homemaker, a 4-H Leader for over 20 years, and a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and the Altar and Rosary Society.
Survivors include: her husband Joe; one son, Rick Basinger of Enfield; two daughters, Karen McKinney of Enfield, and Mary Murphy of Cisne; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three brothers, Don Keepes of Mt. Carmel, Harold Keepes of Olney, and Thomas Keepes of Belmont; and two sisters, Evelyn Oliver of Evansville, and Margaret Burgener of Olney.
Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 1, 2010 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Enfield with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at the church with a rosary being recited at 4:30 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the activity fund at Enfield Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center or Alzheimer Research.
The Stendeback Family Funeral Home in Enfield is in charge of arrangements.
